Title: Noob question about 3.5L power
Post by: shoville on May 06, 2017, 08:24:58 PM
This might already been asked, if so, I apologize for I not know how to properly search.

Ecoboost Raptor. 450hp out the box. Same engine as SHO? I know they are both 3.5L. Both TT. What makes the Raptor the extra torque and HP? Would it be possible to get numbers close to the Raptor's from the SHO motor without meth, nitrous?

Bigger Borg Warner turbos also. I believe the sho's are Garrett gt15 and the F150's are Borg Warner K03

from Popular Mechanics webpage:

"While it might be convenient to think that this is simply the Taurus SHO engine turned 90 degrees and dropped into the truck's cavernous engine bay, that would be completely wrong. The aluminum block is all new because it bolts to a different transmission from the front-wheel-drive applications. The engine also has stronger main bearings. Like all 2011 F-150 powertrains, the 3.5 liter is matched to Ford's six-speed automatic. Additional major differences between the engines include unique heads that feature individual cam phasers for both intake and exhaust; the fixed-geometry turbochargers flow more and produce more boost (13 psi versus 10.5 psi); the main cooling system is upgraded.

These changes enable the F-150's version of the EcoBoost to deliver:

• 365 horsepower at 5000 rpm (on regular fuel)
• 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 2500 rpm (up to 90 percent of peak torque from 1700 rpm to 5000 rpm)
• 11,300 pounds maximum trailer-towing capacity "

It is a second gen block.. is shares more with the fordGT v6 eco-beast than out Taurus gen1 blocks.

Turbos won't swap either before you start thinking about that :)
Might as well be completely different engines.

Imagined that them being different turbos, Ford would have made the entire assembly different.

So basically, they are different engines with same displacement.

It is possible to add the extra HP without nitrous, meth or crack.

I believe usmcsho already answered your question...450hp should be possible with boltons and a tune

Upgraded turbos from ATP.
