Title: Set my expectations ??
Post by: TopherSho on April 17, 2017, 09:58:16 AM
Ok, I am going to PIR this weekend unless the weather plays the trump card, I was super excited initially but now I am worried I am not going to break into the 12's.

With a 3-bar, .28-plugs and a AEM dry filter pushing 298hp/383ftlbs@14.5-spark on a mustang dyno, what should i expect?

I normally run 18.5+ spark on that build with 92-pump gas so I am hopeful that 4 more points of spark with normal air movement will push things a bit more ..

Was my initial idea of 12's a bit ''over hopeful''?

At the track its all about getting off the line with these cars... your 60' is CRUCIAL... This cars are all grunt off the line, so if you have a cruddy launch then your E/Ts are gonna be "slow"... these are not Vettes or other light weight cars that make a ton of power up top... they can suffer a crap launch and make it up in third gear... our are heavy pigs... and the AWD becomes more of a drag towards the top end than help...

Work on your launch, and I fully expect you to be in the 12's...

Launching I have in spades :)  .. best of .004,  and avg of .06x from last years runs with a lightly modded g35.  I think it will be tires, tires and tires at the line.

I am going to launch normal and not go deep,  from the datalogs I have of brake boosting,  2000 rpm is just right,  the TQ curve is all crazy up from there with no lag at all.   If it is warm enough to not skip/hop the 2nd gear shift I should gain 500-hundredths of a millisecond there.

With that kind of HP at the wheels i think you should be in the 12's all day.

Closer to mid 12's even.... with good clean launch and good weather.

Should i remove the weather stripping from the front under the hood?

I removed the back strip to allow more flow,  that did result in a 2f drop in the logs.  but I am less certain about the stripping up front.

1) I am likely to break the clips, i hate that
2) I am worried it will mess with the whole power duct thing
3) I am worried about routing air AWAY from the lower engine block.. aka turbos..

Good deal, your reaction time doesn't mean a good 60' though. A good 60' is more how to launch.. (rpms... tires.. air.. IATs...pedal... etc) post slips when you get back!!!

Your reaction time has nothing to do with your quarter mile time as it is not included.  If you can hit a 60 ft of 1.8 you should be in the 12's just fine.

It's not included in your time for the PRO tree either.

How bad are your crappy Goodyear tires? The DA plays an important role and as mentioned above your 60' times are crucial for an overall best ET.
I would try to keep roughly 1/4 tank of gas and play with your tire PSI a bit.
Due update your vehicle in your signature, thanks and best of luck to ya.  Z
Here is a great overall discussion below.  Z

Yeah, I pretty much ignore the tree and focus on the launch to get my best time.  Unless of course there is something worthy next to me like a mustang that I can embarrass :)

I bag on them heavily,  yet i do not suffer massive wheelspin in 1st or 2nd like many describe so they might be better than i credit them for.

I do hope that I can beat stock Mustangs,  that is the goal/benchmark for me currently.   If i can beat a lightly track prepped decent driven 2015+ Coyote with my 92 street tune i will feel pretty accomplished.

Topher,
What days/time is PIR open?  How much to run?

Cheaper than Woodburn by 10$.  30$ for as many runs as you like, but i am sure there is a 10$ registration fee if your NHRA card is out of date.

Cash only BTW,  they have a ATM but it is hideously expensive to use.
