*final update on this thread*

Finally figured out what made the last tranny fail. In talks with the Tranny tech at ford the tear down revealed : Apparently there is a 'wavy' disk in the clutch pack that was not as wavy anymore.

Cause : possible of three

(1) "to many hard launches" with to many people in the car.  like the hellcats and over-tuned SRTs if you do hard launches with a car full of people and to much grip and not enough 'give' in the suspension and drivetrain it just overstresses the components.  and this one failed.  you can get away with it many times.. but it will fail eventually.  I admit, I have hard launched with 3 passengers on many occasions. not like dozens.. but definitely done it a bakers dozen or more.


(2) I ran it to hard 'cold' and the fluid did not protect said wavy disk, fluid flows slower and thicker colder, and he theorized if i ran it too hard cold the fluid simply did not flow fast enough to pull heat out of the disk,  or it just did not flow fats enough and it got hot, soft and got smooshy.  >but this I do not do. like SBS,BPD,FoMoCoSho I wait 15 minutes of actual travel time before hammering it<

(3) the ''1st tuner'' I had did not put in torque control on shifts .. and it got banged up in the 1st few YEARS of drag racing at PIR and WoodBurn and just elected to eat the disk a bit later in life..


Wow. Thanks for keeping everyone in the loop! That is certainly some interesting information. Hopefully you get everything buttoned backup soon!!

I have heard stories on other platforms of failures due to too much weight from the passengers during launch. Crazy but true.

Interesting side note,  the tranny .. the fill spout is now 'tilted'  and not flat and flush on the new tranny case .. and the tech filled the fluid level up to the TOP of the metal 'slug' that the fill/full markings is on.  Which is coincidently EXACTLY where I had to have my old one filled to keep the tranny from ''letting go'' on hard launches and ''chattering'' in 1st gear.

Thanks for this amazing write up. I'll be doing this today to send to Torrie at Unleashed but I have no idea what to log.  Continuous normal driving, 0-60 runs, full throttle runs for a certain length of time, etc.  What say ye tuning gurus?


Not tuned by Torie anymore, but when I was I would just do a 0-100 log. Might want to just shoot him an email and ask him what he wants to see, he'd probably reply within about 3 minutes.
I did email Torrie. Little disappointed in his response time, it took 5 minutes.

He just needed a WOT run through the gears.

Why not? I havenít been driving much the past 16 months and my Bronco is getting built in a few weeks.

I got offered 9k for it back in November when I checked the first time and got an email from them a few weeks ago and got an offer for 11.4K. I wanted about $12k for it, given the condition it was in-8 year old car with almost 96000.

I donít have to worry about the water pump puking on me either now

Wow, the price has really gone up... but so has everything else.
Had two sets of PPE pipes, no issues, and the second set actually worked better than the originals which were 6 years old. One of the original group purchases when they started on the forum. No problems with fit or bungs.

Nope, you take it off your taxes, I also get $1000 off my electric bill as a rebate for buying one. They're looking at changing it to $12,500 which would be amazing.
The car is SO fun, all the weight is in the battery about 7" off the ground and it has amazing power with the AWD setup. I have wheels and tires coming, doing tint, ceramic coating and paint correction and clear bra next week. 20x10.5 with 295/40/20 and 20x9 with 255/45/20 should fit pretty easily.

I was curious why you didn't go for the Mach-E GT coming out this year. I was thinking about making that move myself.

Tags were due on the Navi, no GT yet. Between skipping tags and car payment that was 1/2 my down. :)
Also GT is around $20K more all in, only 1 second faster 0-60 and less range. This is the wife's DD, not really worried about speed although it is pretty dang quick. Next year I'll more than likely pick up the Lightning, I have a reservation in on one.
One of the big side effects for my house once the charger comes out is the ability to keep the EV plugged into my house and augment my solar batteries. My electric bill is mostly impacted by a load calculation, that load level (max 1/2 hour kW during the peak hours for the month) usually costs me $300 to $400 for the month. By having one of the EV plugged in I can run on battery from late afternoon until 9PM thus keeping my electric bill in the summer to under $100 all in. Solar batteries are about $10K per 10kWh, the Mach E is 100kWh batteries and the Lightning should be close to 175kWh. That means I've paid for 275kWh of batteries which would allow me to run off grid for like 48 hours easily if both are plugged in and solar would recharge them during the day.

Yeah but then you should need a LPFP to feed it and will it run off the CAM correctly ?

Nothing secret. If the 11 second guys could have used it. They probably would have.

This vendor saved my wallet when I had to replace my 2013 MKS Dynamic suspension on all 4 corners. Not only did they have everything in stock but almost half the price of the dealer (which was about the only other place that had them). Since then, just about every part I have needed for my car (everything from a cabin filter to the sunroof motor) has come from Rockauto. Fast and affordable. A rare gem.

I  just ran my car in Oasis last week and was reading through TSB's/SSM's and recall seeing something dealing with an intermittent smoking issue/oil use dealing with the pcv valve. Mine is a 13, but it may still be applicable to your 2010. I'll look it up in a bit and post.
