Title: Woe is me
Post by: Txstrmhntr on November 24, 2014, 07:23:52 AM
It's not even been a year... And my alky controls meth pump is leaking... It's definitely the pump and not fittings. Seals maybe? I know bpd had something similar happen although it took much longer than 8-9 months

Possibly. I know mine lasted about 2.5yrs. Contact alkycontrol maybe they will warranty.

Was the kit new when you bought it?  Maybe the pump can be rebuilt with heavy duty seals, or you can get an exchange with heavy duty seals?

Pumps are 100% rebuildable. I believe Alkycontrol charges $80 to do.

I'm going to call Julio on my lunch break. Worst case I'll send him the pump so it can be rebuilt.

Pulling up a classic I know. But has anyone ever resealed their Alky Meth pump themselves? I haven't opened it up yet but was considering it... Discovered it was leaking already today...

Not worth the risk. Just pay Julio @ Alky Controls.

$85 or so.

Typical lifespan on his pumps are about 2.5 years.

Cool. I was just curious. I've been wrenching for 15+ years now so its doesn't seem like a major undertaking. My biggest concern is finding o-rings seals etc... Idk If they're some one offs in there or what. Kind of like finding the apparently non-existent o-rings for our BOVs... I'm gonna order a new one regardless to keep a backup in rotation. Unfortunately this hasn't even made it a year.
Julio is cool guy tho and willing to answer questions in detail. Spent over half an hour on the phone with him one day BSing... No problem supporting his business.
