Wastegates Dumping all Boost under WOT

Hey fellas, having some trouble after upgrading to a pair of Gearhead Gen3 turbos and wanted to see if anyone could provide input or troubleshooting suggestions. I have worked with Matt to get the appropriate data log, he has pointed out an effect of the problem and i am off to find the root cause.

It is very difficult to say if the problem begun on Day 1 of turbo upgrade, because I was being very conservative due to the new tune, trans re-mapping, ect, but I did begin to notice it within 4-5 days of install,  assuming and chasing a boost leak since. No Check engine lights, no DTC codes, no additional NVH (besides trans mount upgrade), no weird noises even while having another person brake boosting or during WOT. Knock staying below 4.5. No indication of a misfire, plugs and boots replaced within last 5k miles. Mods: GH Intercooler (5 months), LMS HPFP 40 (5 months), MDesign CAI, LMS Catless DP (1 year), SP542, 3Bar, Axle Back exhaust, LMS Catch Can, and GH Gen 3 Turbos (9/5/19).

Under wide open throttle the turbos begin building boost as expected, easily reaching 17psi. A full physical inspection of all charge pipes, fittings, ect, as well as no additional turbo noises or whistling leads me to believe that a boost leak is not the problem. A few further data points reinforce that boost leaking is unlikely, including that i can reach 17psi for a few moments.

During WOT, after the boost has steadily risen to ~17psi the wastegates open completely. The problem i am trying to solve is essentially, "Why do the wastegates open fully under WOT?". From the data that i have gathered, i believe the computer is protecting itself for some reason and essentially releasing all pressure to reduce load. I have used an OBD tool to overlay Fuel Rail and Boost, and Fuel does not appear to be an issue. SCT logs are also attached.

I have also overlayed Absolute Load Value and Calculated load value. This is where I begin to question the computer in more detail. As soon as the calculated load value spikes above 100% (Red), the boost (Purple) immediately drops off. The Fuel rail pressure continues up as expected, as i am still under WOT and am giving the cylinders more to keep moving.

I have known working parts, and a fully functional test "guinea pig" 3.5 ecoboost to work with. Up to this point i have followed a number of suggestions including, swapping out both map sensors (all parts swapped from correctly running test car, which is still running correctly), swapped both stock "BOV's", swapped the boost control solenoid (one with the stupid hose that pops off on the top of the engine), none of which have altered the results. I have also flashed back to stock, reloaded the tune, and experienced the same results.

My problem has appeared very closely related to this thread here (where i have conjured up troubleshooting ideas): https://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,8215.0.html

I have withheld from pulling the turbos out and inspecting them, as I'd like to believe they couldnt possibly be the root cause, but as we see from the thread above a physical turbo problem can cause these results. I am very close to pulling the turbos out, but was hoping to see if anyone had any suggestions.

Thanks much,

brett

are you still running the stock hotpipes?  as far as chasing down boost leaks, maybe FiveLeeter's thread on this topic can help you out ...

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
