11/15/19.......

Been a lil quiet as of late.

So I texted the machine shop owner twice for updates, and his reply is posted as a screenshot.

That reply was on Wednesday evening, and I was waiting for pics to arrive today as is stated in his message, but alas nothing came across my phone.

So figured I'd at least post up the info that he did provide me.

Moving along,  I received the new Reische 170 Thermo, as well as the custom made splitter for the front bumper and carbon fiber rods as well.

I immediately brought them over to the body shop along with my front bumper cover, and dropped both off for them to handle.

I am having them remove the near 7yr old 3M Clear Bra paint protection film which began to yellow,  and having them repair/repaint both the entire front cover (couple areas where big rocks penetrated the film and knicked the paint) as well as having them repair/repaint the existing lower front chin spoiler PRIOR TO them installing/attaching/fastening the new splitter to the spoiler.

Also having them repair/repaint the outer frames of BOTH the upper AND lower custom grilles, as those were never clear bra'd, and they each have their share of accumulated rock dings, blemishes etc.

Once all that's done, then gonna have to wait 30 days before having it all re-clear bra'd once again.

Also learned that PPE finished my pipes, and they were just shipped out today, via FedEx to JET-HOT for the next part of the process.

Also am looking into having the factory exhaust manifolds undergo a process called "extrude honing" for better flow and removing any factory imperfections. Researching vendors currently. Also placed an inquiry into JET-HOT to see if they can also apply their 2500 degree coating to the manifolds, and their heat shields.

Finally, I learned from my long time mechanic  pal/friend, that he contacted the vendor who has my trans, it's been taken apart and is undergoing inspection now to see what is what and where and blah blah blah. So that's beginning to make some progress.

Snail's pace it seems. But there's so much going on, and all in separate ways, that it's becoming challenging to keep track of.

That's it for now. Hope this finds everyone well and enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving holiday!

Ok, so I found out why the recent silence from the machine shop. I awoke this morning to more engine porn pics.

The pics were a (very pleasant) surprise, and I did not realize the shop owner had been doing this.

Extreme valve modifications. Now I have the tech info on the various degrees and what not for all of the following:

Valves, seat cuts, back cuts, contact patches, and full radius info on exhaust seats, but I am withholding that info as I am trying to be respectful to the machine shop owner.

But pics posted below, say it all. Very obvious to even the untrained eye.

He also sent some pics over on the continued modification of the heads, individual bowls, and how they are continuing to show repeated increased flow/improvement with each/every subsequent revision.

We also chatted up about the factory exhaust manifolds. I'm consolidating the convo severely, to simply report that this same shop will be fabricating completely one off, custom manifolds. Which when done, will also be ceramic coated with the JET-HOT 2500 degree thermal coating.

HUGE DEVELOPMENT on this last part, and as far as I know, will be a platform 1st for the GEN4/GEN5 SHO.

To see the level of excitement and enthusiasm on the shop owner's face, is truly something to witness. Downright infectious and it is beginning to make me even that much more excited as things seem to finally be coming along,  after me having crapped out a lot of money the past several months.

More info and pics forthcoming as they are provided to me. Everyone enjoy your weekend!

Of all the things you've posted, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the exhaust manifolds. I seem to recall the factory manifolds as being double walled and prone to delamination on the interior surface, so besides any positives in flow, the fact that you won't need to worry about fod damage to the turbos has to be a good thing. Next years going to be a trip.

11/20/19......

More pics from the machine shop arrived a lil bit ago.

Depicting the MASSIVE differences between a stock, untouched exhaust port, versus a custom, heavily modified one.

My God, even to my untrained amateur eyes, the differences are vast. Machine shop owner stated he's incredibly impressed with the new flow #'s.

Also, PPE has completed my DP's and have shipped them to JET-HOT. JET-HOT confirmed receipt and indicated they are already in processing, and have a tentative completion/ship out date of December 12th, 2019. I asked for "in progress" as well a few completion pics, and Ashley @ PPE stated that wouldn't be a problem.

Also, confirmed with machine shop owner that the new, custom, one off exhaust manifolds will *NOT* conflict with fitment as it relates to bolting up the new DP's to same. Adding that he is making custom jigs (one for each side) and developing tubular type manifolds that will completely eliminate all the hang up and poor flow of the OEM's.

So a few more updates. Little by little fellas.

Looking good! But are they really going to take over a year to coat them? ;)

Good catch. I fixed the year. Oops.

I guess that tells you, at least subliminally, how much I am looking forward to 2020! Ha!

So as i am new again, Meaning with all new drive components,
any chance your Engine Guy would reproduce the exhaust manifolds
for the common man (and what be the damage for a set)?

I will ask, after he actually fabricates a set for me. I mean after all, it would make sense (at least to me) for him to do so, as he'll have custom jigs made for each side.

I'll repost here his reply when it becomes available.

12/03/19......

Reached out to the machine shop today inquiring about any progress/updates.

Figured it'd be slow given the recent holiday, and likely will continue to be slow given Christmas and New Year's is quickly approaching.

I did hear from the body shop however and apparently the (several years) old 3M paint protection film was a real b*tch to remove. Took nearly a full day to do so. They also stated it peeled all the paint off. Yikes! Which was/is fine, cuz it's getting entirely re-worked/re-painted anyhow for anticipated mounting of the custom splitter. But yea, I'm not even sure if any of that product was designed to be removed anyhow.

She's being prepped for priming now.

I also will be going with an entirely new product, which is a ceramic film called "Xpel Ultimate Plus". Guaranteed to never fade/discolor for the life of the film, and also is designed in some chemical/molecular way, in order to allow removal (w/o any damage to underlying paint) if it should ever be necessary to do so.

A picture of the pamphlet is displayed. Feel free to visit their website for details.

Hope to have more (engine) porn pics for the community soon. Hope everyone's well.

The clear bra/paint protection film should come off without causing damage however bc of the amount of time it was on your car (7 years?), it makes sense to me it would have been nearly bonded to the surface, but still surprising.

Well, paint protection film has come a looooooonnnnggggg way in 7yrs time.

3M had problems with theirs, cuz from what I understand, they never formulated the adhesive for removal.

The problem is compounded when anything other than factory paint is in play. Which is/was the case w/ my front bumper cover.

A few years back, I hit the mother of all raccoons that i swear was the size of a damn miniature horse. Damn thing darted out right in front of my path of travel, as it was attempting to retrieve a discarded bag of McDonald's.

Needless to say that was its' last meal. And also meant I needed a new chin spoiler, and new front bumper cover. Which was painted aftermarket.

So umm, yea. That's it in a nutshell. l'm told the new films are made to allow removal, without damage to the substrate/underlying paint.
