Title: Bigger tips on stock mufflers
Post by: 18SHO on January 21, 2019, 12:23:45 PM
Anyone put bigger tips on the stock mufflers to look better? Can you do without welding with like pipe expanders?

Yes you can get bolt on tips.  I had some 4" tips on my old set up with the stock 2.25" exhaust diameter.

I found mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts.  When I did this I had muffler deletes already and had room for the length of the tip.  I would think that if you only cut the tip off the muffler, you could run into a length issue with the new tip sticking out too far which would look silly IMHO.  Plus you will need a good inch of pipe left over to attach.  I'm not sure how this would work when you would still have the mufflers.

I'm not saying it can't be done but the amount left over after you cut the tips off to attach the new tip...and the length you would want might make it harder to find a tip for that application.

You'll have to take some measurements and Google it and see what comes up.  Another thing is perhaps you could cut the new tip down?  Or have an exhaust shop weld some better tips on?  Things start to get tricky here as the options grow...if youre going to end up spending money to modify..looking into an axle back (cheaper than cat back) might be another route.  Dunno.

Thanks , I'm looking on keeping stock mufflers but deleting the resonator and 3rd cat so I'm looking at options for now those stock tips are so tiny

I bought two of these because they were stupid cheap and have been perfect!  They actually sent the wrong ones first, then sent the correct ones and they let me keep the wrong set.  Been nearly two years and they are holding up great. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162202829703 (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162202829703)

I searched high and low because I had a specific style in mind and those were exactly what I wanted and given the price, it was a no brainer.  A 4" polished tip that was double walled with a slight angle to match the bumper.  I ground the spot welds off the old tips, slide those off, positioned the new tips where I wanted them and cut the excess stock pipe off so you wouldn't see it.  Had a shop weld the new ones on and bam, sexiness!

You can and I have. These are 4 inch powder black and took my exhaust shop 30 minutes to fit. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190322/9f0cec1f336a16c84adbc1eb7a6c8df9.jpg)
