Title: Diy Ford emblem
Post by: Gjkrisa on March 15, 2017, 07:54:10 PM
Has anyone made there own decals?
My wife just got a cricut air $150 at Joan's for making shirts but they cut vinyl 8 want to put on clear red then black vinyl over that the plan is to wrap all the chrome in red vynl so doing it this way would be best to get it all color matched.
Thank you.

I've thought about buying someone else's vynl then taking a picture of that to edit it
But I don't want to wait for it to get mailed and no one has the Ford cut out .
I've measured the rear width 5 9/16th  been assuming height would convert well with just getting the right width but guess I need to find height also.

Rear 5.375 x 2.125
Front 5 x 2
Steering wheel 2.1875 x .875

If I get this right I'm willing to sale stickers here at cost.
Or at least first 50

Subscribed for updates. I was thinking about having some custom emblems 3D printed, but I was struggling with how to create the clear dome effect. If the vinyl works, I may try that route if it doesn't distort the lettering. :)

Yes I got the lettering perfect finally but the oval doesn't fill now trying a different file format the size I finally got right was 5.375 x 2.125 (5 3/8 x 2 1/8)
Well the svg file didn't work so I'm going to need to put two images together

Front is 5 x 2 that makes things way easier working on separating the red takes some patients.

Well this is what I got don't mind the bubbles I just threw it on quick thinking it would look like crap anyways in person the red is a little washed out then that should of turned hdr off might try again with a hairdryer to get the red to lay flat and stretch it out some.
Also going to go-to a local vynl store to see if they have a red I'd like I bought that on eBay ment for the rear view mirrors till I decided I'd like to get all the chrome that color.

Thank you I would like it to be better to be able to sell it but this will work for me I might be able to cut the two together so that I will not need to stretch the red

I could have just used foil wrap to make it easier and may even look nicer

Just got done making the front and steering wheel label
Tomorrow going to plastidip the front chrome because I don't have time to take it off and wrap it also think having that much chrome show will be ugly

So went to go fix my front emblem because I had made the red sticky side out and found out the cricut software won't let me! Thanks ford if you didn't want people making stickers then create a custom sticker maker on your site

Following.

I ordered some overlays from an eBay seller in carbon fiber w/red lettering and he just couldn't get it right (and it took him 3 months), so I'm looking for other options

Here is what I can get in town I forgot to ask the lady what was good for shrinking and what didn't form well so later today going to try stopping by and finding out
Found out that car vynl will stretch and regular will not form to curves much
Might need to order black car vynl for better fitment although not bad without

So I'm thinking of creating a stencil to paint the calibers to say Ford performance does anyone have ideas

The plan was to paint them red but may stay silver so I can do the blue Ford red performance or white the caliber

You give these dimensions to any one making the decals they should get your decals right for you

Except I would like to make it more pro looking but need to order higher quality transfer tape to look like a actual sticker no raised letters

So the way the decals are are the easy way of putting the second color on top of the background when I get my transfer tape they will be two perfect cut out to make one image then the transfer tape is put over top to make it all smooth and protect it from getting anything into the micro spaces.

Whenever these get into "mass" production I'm ready to throw money at you Gjkrisa. I'd love a black/red or carbon/red set. Progress is looking good!
