Title: Need to share with this group.
Post by: bamsho on October 17, 2020, 06:57:09 PM
Im not running away from this, I feel better if it's out in the open.

I have bad news to share.

After couple months of discomfort swallowing, I went to my family doctor.  He scheduled a GI swallow test, which turned into a rush GI scope procedure.  Yeah, you know where this is heading.

They found a 3CM mass in my esophagus, near where the esophagus and stomach meet.  Biopsy was done, and it was confirmed.

So saw oncologist last Thursday to discuss things and the next steps.  CT scan is Monday to see if the cancer spread anywhere else.  Tuesday I see the radiologist, I know they want to start this ASAP.  Then back to the oncologist Thursday again for the CT scan results.

It has been an overwhelming last couple weeks to say it mildly.  My wife and I have done alot of praying and crying lately.  Yeah I'm freakin scared beyond scared.

Writing this is helping me cope,  so thank you for taking the time to read this.  I've been in the SHO community for 20 plus years, let me tell you it's a tight community, not matter how much we bicker. Just need the community behind me and my wife at this time.

God bless everyone

God knows I love me some sweet sweet Bri Bri action. I mean look, I even tried giving him a little tongue for Christ's sake.

But alas, this won't be the last finger he graciously gives me, that's for sure.

Brian my prayers are with you, and God speed for a quick and successful outcome in this next challenge life has thrown your way.

So sad to hear, but if there's anyone that's got this, it's you my friend. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201018/3cc21380e85124f5ba7a3f2f01d8e3be.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201018/b8ff3e6af8a7e817f2ee172915e96276.jpg)

Thanks guys.  Definitely been up and down last couple weeks.  Another busy week with CT scan, seeing radiologist, and back to the oncologist.  Hopefully will know more and when treatment will start.

Going to the track Friday, but not to race.  Just to talk and hang out with my friends there.

I know it's easier said than done, but don't lose hope and keep a positive mentality. In January 2015 I went for a routine checkup and complained that after a cold where the glands under the jaw tend to swell, one of them didn't have the swelling go back down. The MD sent me for a biopsy and came back stage 3 squamous cell carcinoma. My old MD was pessimistic and all he said was rare cancer, no cure. My attitude was, I've had a great life, so be it. I got sent to a great hematology center and before the following summer I was full remission. Now 5 years later it is reclassified cured. It was a rocky road for 6 months but I believe my attitude helped the outcome.

Hey Brian!  Always looked forward to seeing your posts, but this is no way to do it!

So sorry to hear the diagnosis, and hoping the C is contained.

I have had a relative with metastasized cancer recover, partly due to their optimistic nature no doubt, but also due to the excellent care she received. Same with a friend who I could fairly say fought off an extreme case of colon cancer, again, due to excellent care.

Best wishes from me and the wife, you are always in our prayers.  Like you said the SHO community is tightknit, and we want you to WIN WIN WIN.  God Bless.

Will PM you separately.

I'm so sorry to hear about this ordeal Brian!
Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this fragile time.
I'm hoping with much praying you shall overcome this.
I would at least try to get a second opinion from a reputable Dr and another Ct scan IMHO!

Please think Positive and keep your chin up my friend.
Due keep us updated on all counts.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime.  Z

Well news got worse.  Got the results from my CT scan.  The cancer spread and was found in some of my lymph nodes and 2 spots on my liver.   So this fight just got harder, but I can do it.  Requested my medical files, so I can send the John Hopkins in Baltimore.  Just taking it one day at a time for now.

Update guys..  Got an appointment at John Hopkins next Wednesday.  One of the best cancer places in the country.  Think my oncologist doctor got a little but hurt when we getting a secong opinion from there.  He made a couple comments to my dad and wife which they hated.  Oh well too bad.  If  we like what they have to say, guess what they are taking the lead in treating me.

11/05/20.......

I've been asked to provide an update here on behalf of Brian.

I'll just start out by cutting right to the chase. Brian's condition is far from good.

After having gone to John Hopkins, the staff at that facility confirmed what Brian had been previously told by his local physician. The cancer has spread to various areas of his body. There's no prescribed course of treatment at this point. Moving forward, they can only help Brian stave off his developing symptoms to provide as best a quality of life experience as possible. His condition is considered terminal.

It pains me to inform everyone of this. Tears are welling up as I type this.

Brian was sent home from John Hopkins, but then went right back to his local hospital because he was having difficulty swallowing anything at all. Solids, or liquids.

Brian then had a stent placed inside his esophagus to help open up the opening to permit him to begin eating/drinking. That procedure turned out to be challenging, as the tumor had/has grown. They went right through the tumor itself in order to place the stent where it needed to be.

Brian was then released again, only to return back to the ER yesterday. He has now been diagnosed with Pneumonia. To make matters even worse, the stent dislodged, and is now resting in his stomach. Brian has not eaten anything since last Saturday.

His wife (Kris) mentioned that he has since been transferred to a facility called "Geisinger" to have the stent retrieved and re-installed a 2nd time. However, none of that can occur, until the Pneumonia has been eradicated.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Geisinger does not allow any visitors at all. Including family. So Brian's all alone at the moment, with his only interactions being with hospital staff.

I spoke with Kris today. Understandably she's incredibly upset. She said Brian's having a real tough time. Kris also informed me that Brian's last pay check was picked up 2 weeks ago and financially, they're beginning to struggle. Brian has short term disability, but that only lasts a short time and is also only covering 60% of what he previously earned. Insurance is expiring as well.

Kris said that Brian's father is in the process of setting up a Go-Fund Me account to take donations. I will post that info once it is provided to me. I know that Go-Fund Me charges service fees. So I asked Kris if in the interim, would she be willing to accept donations via PayPal. In tears herself now, she said yes, and thanked me for asking.

That said, whatever the community can do to help out, any/all donations will be greatly appreciated.

Their PayPal email is: bamkmm91@gmail.com

Please pray for Brian, as well as for Kris, and their only daughter Kate. Their entire family appreciates all the support respectively.

Thank you everyone.

Brian's good friend.......  Mike K.

That SUCK SUCK SUCKS SUCKS.
That being said, I HIGHLY suggest you remove all simple carbs from your diet and start implementing fasting ASAP.
Glucose feeds cancer. Fasting longer than 72 hours helps your body break down unused proteins AKA cancer via autophagy.
The more of a meat only diet you can consume the better you'll be (CRAZY but true).
Also fasting prior to chemo massively reduces it's negative effects.
Trust me on this, with the wife's leukemia we've made massive strides following these protocols and her Dr is like you're reversing her leukemia.

https://osher.ucsf.edu/patient-care/integrative-medicine-resources/cancer-and-nutrition/faq/cancer-and-fasting-calorie-restriction

Myself I've lost over 100lbs with a meat primary diet with very little veggies, no fruit, no sugar, no bread etc. My health markers are in the excellent range for everything and my Dr. is completely impressed. Wife cured her T2 diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid and fatty liver.

I agree with Mike.  From my own personal experience with health and extreme pushing of my body athletically (monitored from my doctor) all of my markers move into better ranges with a primary meat diet.  Jordan Peterson and his daughter also have chronicled this in numerous pod casts which lead to try it.

I am sorry to hear this man. I will say that the company I work for makes software for companies that do genomic testing on cancers. Long story short is that if your oncologists haven't done so already, you might want to check with them to see if they considered doing genomics testing on the tumor/s and cancer cells that are afflicting you. The benefits of genomics testing are that it pin-points the correct course of treatment that is currently available and known to be successful to that specific cancer based on its genetic profile. Either way, I am saying a prayer for you and our family and know you will pull through.

UPDATE.

  Hey everyone,

Had a good appointment at the oncologist today.  They had my tumor test and found that it will take chemo well and shrink the tumors.  Also my body is doing well to chemo so far.  I'm starting to eat more, thankfully.  I lost 20lbs during my hell week in the hospital the other week.  I'll get into that another time.  I have an EKO scheduled for Thursday morning to make sure my heart is good.  Oncologist wants to add another chemo drug to help shrink the tumor faster.  So that's it for now.  Thanks for all the prayers and support, it means alot to Kris and I.

This past Monday they added a 3rd chemo drug to the mix.  I had a reaction to it.  I got cold and the shakes real bad, like someone flipped a switch.   The nurses and doctor took care of this issues almost immediately.  I was scared bigtime when this happened.  Doctor told me that sometimes this happens and they would get me thru it, and they did.  Rest of the treatment went as normal for the day, and got my pump hooked up for the next 2 days.  Wednesday afternoon they removed the portable chemo pump and I went home.   Then I didn't feel good and was nausea the rest of the night.  Thankfully they gave me awesome nausea pills.  Thanksgiving morning I felt fine, so hopefully next treatment won't be as bad.  I'm definitely able to eat alot better than weeks ago.  I actually was again to eat a small portion of Thanksgiving dinner Kris made.  Just that little dinner made me feel alot better.

Forgot to mention,  doctor thinks maybe in mid or late Dec, I can have this stent in my esophagus removed.  That would be a big deal.  That's it guys.

Finished up round 3 of chemotherapy today.  Had my chemo pump removed, I have to wear it for 2 days.  Yes it sucks, can't do much with it hang around my neck.  Also got a surprise email today.  I had wrote my story about my cancer on the Washington football team page.  Well I was surprised that I actually got a response from Coach Rivera.  Yes it's actually from him, saw the email address.  I cried some, because he actually took the time to email me.

So overall Im doing ok, eating pretty much normal food now.  Stent removal is on hold till this Covid crap calms down.  Also the cold sensitive finally hit me, yeah that totally sucks.  So I keep pushing ahead.

Super cool that coach rivera reached out to you. I've heard from friends that lived in panther land that he is a genuinely super nice guy. Also super sorry to hear that you're a redskins fan, that must be tough the last 20 years or so (even tho they just beat my steelers).

Just venting.  Think I just hit a wall in my treatment.  I don't know why it happened but it did.  Couldn't sleep to save my ass, even the prescription meds didn't work.  How I felt was so up and down all week, everyday, got to me.  Ive stayed positive thru all this, but even this week my mind was racing, even thinking about the inevitable.  With the new year upon us, now I'm freakin scared.  Scared that when I have the CT scan it will show that the spots on the liver haven't changed.  Then I worry about Kris and Kate, family and friends living without me.  Kris said alot of what I'm feeling is part of the side effects of the one chemo drug.  I just don't know anymore.  Treatment is tomorrow, so will talk with the doctor then.  Just had to get this off my chest.

Talk with oncologist today.  Looks like I'll be on some type of treatment for the rest of my life.  Then CT scan at the end of month before my 8th treatment.  So then we well see.

Thanks for listening guys.

Dont let your imagination or your thoughts run wild.  Steer back to the course you were doing good on.  The universe of terrible outcomes is infinite.  Keep that door closed.  You will do fine.

As for handling side effects, homeopathy, acupuncture, and medical marijuana are very viable options. Ask your doctors about them.

CT scan scheduled for the 27th of January.  As they say, this is the money shot.  I will know the results on my next treatment the following Monday.  🙏🙏🙏.  Praying bigtime now.  Oncologist seemed to be positive the results will be good news.  Let's hope so.

Thanks guys.   February CT scan went good.  Tumor in my esophagus is 85 to 90 percent gone, lymph nodes near stomach showed no signs of cancer in them.  Biggest is the liver.  Spots on my liver have shown significant reduction in size and some have disappeared completely.  Liver is also back to normal shape and size.  So that was a great relief to my wife and I.  Couple more months of chemo to go.

Started back to work Feb 22.  Only working PT for now.  It was harder than I thought.  4 hours felt like 12 hrs.  I was whooped big time.  Also had the stent removed, since it ended up in my stomach.  Yeah, that sucked.  24/7 upset stomach.

Thanks for the support and prayers, much appreciated.

Well I'm home from the hospital.  Been a rough 4 days.  I had a great doctor, he explained every test and procedure.  Made sure we well informed and and answered any questions we had about anything.  I thanked him for being very persistent on figuring why I was getting fevers on and off.  I have an inflamed gallbladder.  After bunch of tests, they installed a drain into my gallbladder to drain it and help it calm down.  I have to have it in for 4 weeks to start, then they will see when the inject fluid into it, that the fluid goes thru the bile duct.  They are leaning towards maybe one of the spots on my liver is closing off the bile duct.  Which unfortunately means it's removal.  It makes things worse due to the spots being so close to where the small incision locations will be and exposing the spots to air.  So it maybe risky,  but one day at a time right now.

thanks for the update! lotta bumps in the road, hope it goes more smoothly in the future.  i'd say to look into liver detox/upping your leafy green intake to help ward off the big uns.  maybe some homeopathic support as well for general wellbeing if nothing else.
