SHOdded, when I first got the 15 SHO I used 87 and the max engine RPM in "D" was 5700. Someone on this form said to use premium so now I use 91(that's all we can get in MN) and now the max RPM in "D" is 6200. Is the engine management system able to recognize what octane I am using and adjust accordingly ?
Auggie
P.S. Engine still running strong on conv. oil :)
Well, yeah, the PCM knows what octane the engine is running on. Basically it cares about when knock occurs, and that's the max timing it allows. Since higher octane allows for more timing, you are able to stretch the engine some more. That's why 93 is highly recommended with these engines, even with a stock tune. 87 the engine is barely keeping alive (in performance-speak).
Glad the conventional oil is still working. Have you done a UOA yet?
I see you are in Maple Grove. If you care to try it, 93 is available at BP stations. There are at least two stations in Maple Grove where I have bought fuel.
