Title: E30 worth it?
Post by: Chris_Flex on June 10, 2017, 03:46:53 PM
Ive had unleashed 3bar 93 tune for a few months with a few revisions on my flex feels great but was thinking about going with a E30 tune I have plenty of e85 stations near me. The extra $99 for E30 tune worth the difference in performance?

Ran a 12.491 with a 1.810 on e20 15psi  40 degree weather(unleashed)
Ran a 12.433 with a 1.798 60ft on e30 with 14psi in 65degree weather with (ajp tuning) it even closes throttle in between gears to stop the boost spikes

Are you testing the e85 in our area? Is it actually 85%

I just realized you are in Lancaster area, I think we talked before. Sheetz has been putting e85 in a bunch of their stations. I use prospect road sheetz, only 1 minute from my house. But I heard there are other sheetz stations putting e85 in. I used to use mollys in Manheim, but they took it out. Then was using wo-go in greenfield, but now sheetz is way closer.

I am in the Reading Area. Lancaster side. I will have to check the stations near me and see what they have.

Fairly accurate... you can always call the gas station to confirm.

Since this thread specifically asks about E30, thought I would post this puff piece here:
http://www.ethanolproducer.com/articles/13109/are-you-ready-for-the-e30-challenge (http://www.ethanolproducer.com/articles/13109/are-you-ready-for-the-e30-challenge)

It was pointed out to me today that the claim is you can get better mpg with E30 than E10.  I have yet to research this, but ... ???  Anyone?

No.  E30 is 30% Ethanol, Ethanol has less power per liter than gasoline.  Pure gas will always give you better mileage than a blend.

I drove about 120 miles on the highway the other week, 28.2mpg @65-70mph, on my e30 tune

What do you get with e10 or e0, tuned or untuned?

^^ +1

With a good e30 tune (if your fuel system can handle it) your 60ft and 0-60 will gain quite a bit and 3rd gear will benefit as well.

I think 26-27... but honestly I have been running e20-e30 for 1.5 years.. only had the car for 2 months before I tuned it. I don't normally drive it on trips. Got a minivan to haul all my people and stuff

I have made several different road trips lately with my Continental, some tuned for straight 93 and others with additional spark set up for more E.

The best mileage and performance I get is with about a 35% E blend.  Frankly, I was surprised.  I expected mileage to take a hit with higher levels of E but not so with the tune I am running.  Whether running the 93 tune or the E tune, mileage is improved over stock.

YMMV.

It honestly depends on the tuner. Brad has probably done more research on our platform from a E tuning perspective than most. He adjust lambda for his E tunes which will make a difference in your MPG... HOWEVER that being said, I am unsure if he is tuning for every day driving or just wide open awesomeness. His throttle tuning and transmission tuning effects everything.. just not sure if he adjusts the fueling for cruising around. Maybe he will chime in?

Throttle angle is everything. I have no self control as well over my throttle angle. LOL

I believe AJP has done MPG tunes that people have been happy with. I will def have a 93 tune. E30 Tune. A long trip MPG tune. Would love to hit 30mpg if possible.

The Juke modding is almost done. I will be tuning the SHO in October.

Torries E30 tune knocked almost a half second off my quarter from the 93 tune.  I suspect it will be even more once I lower the car and get new tires.

Yes, the stuff is very addicting.

Unleashed Tune (93) | K&N Filter | 13.228 @ 103.27 New Hampshire Dragway (-400 DA)
Unleashed Tune (100) | K&N Filter | 13.162 @ 104.67  New Hampshire Dragway (0 DA)
Unleashed Tune (E30) | K&N Filter | CX Racing Intercooler | ~12.999 @ 106.51 ATCO (+200 DA)

All with pretty much the same 60' - 1.930 for 93 and E30, 1.949 for 100 octane.

I recommend mixing the E85 with 93 for best power.  The E30 tune I have shows 0 signs of KR from 0-110 and could probably go even faster.
