Performance Upgrades / Re: How to Use Whatever Rear Spring You Want
« Last post by 802SHO on Today at 09:28:15 AM »
Hello, I have a 2013 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost I've been using as a track car. Mechanically almost identical to a Taurus SHO. The adaptive suspension the MKS is equipped with may have a sport mode, but it's not suited to this kind of use. My shocks were all either on their last leg or completely dead, so I ordered some of the BC Racing DS Series coilovers. Their default rates are 6kg/mm front, 8kg/mm rear. 8kg/mm seemed much too soft for the rear though, as I had taken measurements of the rear control arms and found that the motion ratio was 0.578. With this, I found the rear spring should be at least 12kg/mm, and I decided I wanted to use a 14kg/mm spring.

The problem is, BC doesn't have options for the rear rate. The rear springs are not a conventional spring design. I ordered the coilovers from their site with the 12k rear spring and I was told they only had an 8k that would fit the car. So I went with that, and looked for a way to adapt a linear coilover spring to the rear. I discovered that the 350Z uses a rear spring of the same dimensions in BC's kits, but they also have an option to get the 350Z coilovers with a lower spring perch for linear coilover springs. These perches can be ordered separately (D-17-LSA), so I ordered them along with some 7" 14k Swift Springs. (As of August 2022 I have gone to a 14k front/28k rear setup)

They do in fact fit the car and seem to work perfectly. I haven't track tested the car yet with the new setup yet, and it still needs an alignment, but if I do ever need to change rates in the future I will now be able to use whatever rate I want for both front and rear.

Nice find on the rear adapter I

Yeah I was just teasing. The smaller snails spool so fast and are a perfect fit for the speed of a road car.

I forgot about the test and tune time etc. Sub 12 secs doesnt do much good.

I have found a workaround. Set key fob 1 as a mykey, dont use that key fob. Use key two and no more key not found message as well as very responsive remote.

I found one post where Ford engineering helped a dealer with a similar issue in a diesel truck. The poster said they had to pull a fuse to some module while programming the keys. Tried a couple variations of that without luck.

General Discussion / Re: Funny Taurus sighting......

LOL. So true.

Interesting story.

My Ex wife. Her Partner just transitioned female July of 2021 and went to Spain for a surgery July of 2022 He could not get it here so soon....... He is 58 years old....... Unreal. Still a he no matter what in my books.

So very true.

Interesting how certain political ideologies would have one believing they are who they think they are.

Or more ironically.... so many of us have had shoved down our throats the mantra of just "follow the science" for far to long now.

But yet, those same ideologies only "follow the science" when it fits their own narrative.

One is what they are, as they entered into the world. Removing or adding physical parts will never ever change one's DNA at the cellular level.

Anyways, I digress.

You can also ask your tuner to increase your idle speed by 100 rpm which will get rid of a lot of the NVH.

They all can help but will just add more interior cabin noise. They do make the car sound more like a race car than the exhaust does. (on the inside)

Performance Upgrade Discussions / The Elusive Camshafts
« Last post by Ta2dResqr on August 15, 2022, 09:28:36 AM »
I sent a message to Kelford Cams late last week. They are based in NZ. They are also the supplier to RMBMotorworks. They are in the process of making a camshaft for both longitudinal and transverse applications. The current site lists the Gen1 EcoBoost F150. https://www.kelfordcams.com/global/camshafts/ford/ecoboost-3-5-litre-gen1-dual-variable-v6 Contacting them through their website has stated that they put them on pause for a little bit for some higher-demand applications. They are hopeful to have cams out this next year and are curious to see what the desires are for this application. If you have a moment please shoot them a message. https://enquiry.kelfordcams.com/ Because these platforms are not as heavily modded in NZ, they are admittedly slow at identifying the international market desires.

Performance Upgrades / Re: Polyurethane bushings interest

Well, as life happens, so do delays.  The week after I returned from out of town my 2yo broke his leg and any time I have home is spent with him.  I did purchase another set of uprights so I can minimize any down time my car has.  They still need to get disassembled and cleaned up before I move forward.

I did make a couple changes to which bushings to use.  I decided to allow some articulation on the lower/inner bushing by using the DayStar spherical type.  The housing will need a little turn on the lathe, but it should minimize any binding in the suspension.  Also, the lateral link (toe adjustment) will remain stock, but using another DayStar bushing.  The housing is a little smaller than the hole, but a little welding will fix that.

I did finally get tapatalk, so I'll upload pictures as I get things done.  The shock bushings did require a little bit of a turn on the lathe, but are done.

Troubleshooting / Re: 2014 SHO Surging / Loss of Power

Alright, today was the first time I've driven to work since the issue was discovered. I'm happy to report the car is back to normal 100%. I'd consider this issue resolved unless something else comes up.

And for those following along, a new TCM resolved my wife's truck problems. Less than 5 minutes to fix. Too bad it cost me $750.
