Title: Flappy hood above 75mph...
Post by: TopherSho on May 31, 2019, 12:37:38 AM
So My hood starts bouncing up and down progressively worse as i go above 75,  did not do this before the swap so i assume its addressable.  but eyeballing it doesn't really give me a clue as what is different.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Edit: to clarify the back of the hood does this.  not the whole hood.  i lowered/raised the hood gap by twisting the posts in and out, it seemed to not have any affect.

Have you checked all the bolts that hold the back of the hood to the mounts as well as the bolts on the mounts themselves?

It sounds like you're Belly pan under Cover is NOT ON! Sometimes they forget to reinstall it after a dealer visit! Z

Or a fastener is loose/missing on the firewall side of the bellypan.  But definitely "what lies benath".

I will echo both Z and Manu.  When my underbelly pan "relocated" itself, I watched my hood do some funky things when I was in the process of coming to a complete stop rapidly.  LOL.

@BPD1151 : oh you know i was tired of my old engine so i opted to have injector #2 fill the cylinder full of gas and punch the rings out randomly under WOT on a 20% incline on ramp :)

@rest : By underbelly pan you mean the plastic bolt on pan UNDER the engine?

I've never had my splash guard on and never had any adverse vibrations. I'd see if you can pull the hood on any of the corners of it and see if there is any excessive movement. Personally to me sounds like the hood latch is a little loose / messed up

the shield was mounted outside the clip,  so it was scooping up air,  and under the front assembly the black cowly bit (part-6 of the above pic) popped a couple of the push clips on the left and is hanging down... was likely flapping up and down ..

getting push clips, solved im sure

Yeah glad it was that easy! 1st time it did it i thought the hood wasnt down and latched,  it was traveling a solid inch up near the glass.... freaked me out a tad as i have seen at PiR someone FORGET thier hood clips and flip their sheet metal hood at 110+ mph
