Sometimes I only drive it 25 to 50 miles in 3 months. I'll do it every 6 months. Lol

I've always used Royal Purple but I'm open to trying something else.  For me I'll change the oil before I start driving it again.  And after 2k or so...and then right before I stop driving it.  Last year I did before..during at about 1,500 and then one more time before putting it away.  That was 3 oil changes in 3k

I would only run amsoil for the longest time. I switched over about 3 oil changes ago to Castrol edge. I plan on pushing this girl really soon on race gas. Castrol edge to me seemed like the way to go in my readings. Seems pretty good so far and it's just as expensive unless you find it on sale. As far as changing it since I daily drive my car I usually go 3500/4000k. If I go to the track a couple times I like to change it around 2500 or so.

I just can't get down with any of the mainstream oils and how they call them synthetic but knowing they are  refined petroleum group III oils

I have to use group IV...I just feel lied to if I were to use the group III hydro cracked oils that are labeled as synthetic

What oil would you recommend to use?  I'm oil illiterate.

Macgyver

Here is a fair list.

https://www.yourbestpicks.com/best-synthetic-motor-oils/

Not sure what is Grade 3 or Grade 4.

I as well as others change it so often that a really good grade 3 is good enough for me. Castrol Edge or Magnatec. $30 oil change every 3 to 4 months.

I might give Amsoil SS a shot...something about it being designed to eliminate LSPI should mean something....IN THEORY

Their claim is unfounded.  Who did the testing?  I cant find any literature about it, and if it was Oil Analyzers INC, they are a division of AMSOIL.  Bias, I would say.  If they figured out the emulsifying issue then they would have stated it.

Off all the literature I have gotten my hands on, I feel Castrol Edge is the best for my application.

I thought it was the GM dexos LSPI test? Which is becoming a standard test now that there is so many GDI engines

https://www.amsoil.com/lander/new-amsoil-signature-series/

Here is the info claiming from AMSOIL.  Directly from the site.

Low-speed pre-ignition is the spontaneous ignition of the fuel/air mixture prior to spark-triggered ignition. This phenomenon is much more destructive than typical pre-ignition and has become one of the latest challenges to arise in today's advanced engines. Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil has been armed with an advanced detergent system and achieved 100% protection against LSPI.3

3Based on independent testing of AMSOIL Signature Series 5w-30 motor oil in the LSPI engine test as required for the GM dexos 1® Gen 2 specification.
4vs. AMSOIL OE Motor Oil

So who was the independent testing group? Did GM do the test?

I couldn't agree more with all the info I found as well. If you guys really want I'll ask the amsoil rep when he comes in. Probably a few weeks before he comes in. He's also a sales rep so he will probably lie to me lol.
