How much metal in a new motors oil after 125 miles..?

rpms have not been more than 3000 rpm, and not any sustained 2500+ rates.  just in drive,  light throttle.

took it in and saved the filter after 125 miles on the oil that came with the new motor. ( oil filter still to be taken apart .. somehow) and a bunch of oil that was in the filter.

on inspection of the oil in bright sunlight see a ''shimmer''  and super tiny flakes... REALLY tiny flakes

now i have no idea how break ins go .. have not done one.  so i expect metal to a degree... but is this a 'bad sign' or 'meh drive it another 400' and change the oil and look again ??

this is under a 8MP cannon under full zoom to about 8x optical at 5-6 inches away .. so really close...

There are a ton of posts about shimmering in the first couple oil changes so I'm not going to worry about it too much for now.

If I still see something at the 1500 mile change then I'm going to throw a little bit of a fit..

Sticking to my plan

0-100 check oil and change oil
No boost
Nothing over 3000 rpm
Light throttle

100-500 check oil again change oil
More of the same

500-1500 check oil change oil
Light normal driving
Normal boost use but no wot

1500-2500 check oil change oil
Limit wot, some shake down driving
Normal driving

2500 retune with AJP
Go hard ..

Based on this, "looks" like it is breaking in just fine.

Thank you sir!  I'm both impatient and paranoid...

-0- metal sparkelies of ANY kind :)  .. Driving 300 miles more i expected some,  but none is nice.

It must have knocked/ground all the major stuff loose in the 1st 125.

going to change the plan up slightly with the oil being so clean.

After 500 miles (100 from now) light duty driving will commence allowing for limited boost, and limited amounts of time at over 3500 rpm but under 4000.  I will still be looking to keep load lowish.

I wonder how long it takes for the rings to 'stick' ... might need to consider not tuning until i'm way past that point. i will throw a email around and see what i can find.

Livernois says within the 1st drive/run-in of the engine they will be fully seated.  good to know..

Personally at 500 miles change the oil, and I would let her eat.  Hammer down.

From the PDF it looks that way.. scares me a bit though! since this is not a LN block i'm still hesitant.

The LM short block probably has more strenuous break in procedures because of the forged parts.  Like I said, change the oil, and let her eat.

I would give it another 500 miles, doing some moderate to high throttle runs - maybe 25%?, then resume normal driving.  It does not hurt to be a little conservative in the beginning.  Ford's general recommendation is 1,000 miles anyway.
