Closing comments when asked if the name brand will ever re-appear?

Answer:    "You never know".

Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

Notice the article also commented on the fact that truck/SUV sales are now down to less than 50% of all sales, down from 2/3rd's in most recent stats?

Interesting and cryptic.

For the record I generally hate SUV's CUV's SAV's or whatever else MFG's decide to call them during a given week. Unless you are driving like a Suburban or Tahoe or Sequoia  or any of the bigger ones they really don't have anymore room than a car.

And most people run around with all season tires that are 50% worn so they don't go in snow that well anyway and on top of that most people shouldn't drive in snow anyway.

I've declared war on SUV's. They are ugly also, just unattractive vehicles.

I'd actually drive an awd minivan before an SUV. But I'm honest with myself and what I want. Minivans have way more room a lower floor and can have a middle seat that can be removed so you can sit around and drink and play cards or take your wife or girlfriends clothes off and roll around the back for awhile. . They drive better on the highway too.

Completely agree with you there Brad.

Zero plans for me to purchase anything other than a sedan.

Which unfortunately dictates I must look elsewhere now.

I think the SUV's/CUV's are way, way.....

WAY OVERHYPED.

The thought has crossed my mind this is all a ruse to get rid of excess inventory.

I can see it now...

I agree with Brad and bpd.   I really don't understand this fascination with tall ugly vehicles trying to be both utilitarian and sporty.    Personally, since I have no kids at home, I can be perfectly content with a Mustang for sporty fun and a 4X4 truck for hauling things and for driving in snow.  However, I still think the SHO or MKS Ecoboost is a great combination of good looks, comfort, room and performance.    My Continental takes the comfort and room part to an even higher level although it looks a bit stodgy and lacks the performance potential of the SHO.

We still love you SHOdded!!!

I have had 4 escapes through my work... the body which is a small CUV...

The 2008 body style that was boxy where you could pop the rear window open was actually useful.... It wasn't a hateful vehicle...

The newer CUV's are garbage... the newer escapes are worse.... no where to tie the rear gate closed, rear window doesn't open, not much room, the fold down seats don't go flush with the rear cargo, and the list goes on... it's a glorified focus... (iirc it sits on the same unibody)...

The explorers are not bad...

I had a Tahoe 2003 (with GY triple treads that went through everything....) and THAT was a SUV... besides the SHO it is easily my favorite vehicle... and some days it's a toss up...

Ford is selling "future discontinued" vehicles like hot cakes... might be one of the best marketing moves done by an auto MFG....

You know what I really love about this forum is the amount of smart, awake people on it. I approve all these comments so far...well done ole' chaps!

This crossover, cuv crap has bothered me for waaaay to long and I have wondered why so many people have bought into it? Like you all have done and just do the math; numbers don't lie.

IMO an SUV is not an SUV if it does not have a body on frame. It's a shame. A car or SUV as we know it will go the way of the manual transmission in America. By that I mean, they assume we don't want it so they don't offer it.

2009. They, meaning poor mpg vehicles, were "selling" like hot cakes. IF they qualified for the gas guzzler trade in credit. Now we have come complete circle. Gas is almost as high and people are buying poor mpg S/CUVs again. I think we will see the buy out again some day. To bail out the car mfgrs and boost the CEO bonuses of the banks that lend the loan $$$.
