Well this didn't work out at all.

So i recently installed yellow stuff pads on my SHO and at first loved them! Stopped on a dime and grabbed immediately. After driving them after 4000 miles they are chewing up my rotors. I had the rotors turned prior to the install and used new hardware/grease were needed.

I just cant believe this would happen so fast? Any ideas Im missing here?

(And no i didn't race these on a road course or drag strip yet. Just a road trip... long road trip.

A) new rotors (high carbon content) are a must to get with new pads imho, and b) did you breakin the pads per EBC procedure?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Doesn't sound right....Can you post pics? I have the Blue stuff NDX pads which are the next step more aggressive than yellow and they aren't hard on the rotors...I don't think yellow stuff is supposed to be since they are a street pad.

I've seen rotors that are turned/machined and left too rough due to the tooling used.

I think EBC says you should get 2 pad changes to 1 rotor change at least for yellow stuff.

I was curious if you smelled the pads burning on a hard stop from 70 + mph !  Z

I definitely agree and yes I followed the break in procedure.

I can post pics of how they look now but they were pretty smooth after getting turned. Im wondering if the warmed up and got debri caked in which is why they are acting the way they are?

I didnt have any odd smells during braking but sometimes at a stop I might smell (for a very short time) what I thought was hot brakes.

I could be wrong but thought the FSM recommends to NOT Turn Rotors! Dunno! Z

If you are using stock Ford rotors they are notorious for being soft, on our last 5 vehicles they are needed replaced at very low mileage..around 30K miles.
On the SHO I used EBC slotted/dimpled rotors and Redstuff pads and they are working great.  I think it is more a function of the soft Ford/ Motorcraft rotors...I would never recommend using Ford rotors, they just don't stand up to today's harder pads, especially ceramic type pads.
