So thanks to BPD1151's hood vents and my Father recommending I do something to help extract the heat from the motor I am now going down the path of getting hood vents put in...

Not planning on copying Mikes setup which is awesome in its own right, but would like something different...

Couple questions.. anyone with a Gen 5 that has hood vents? I am thinking of ordering the GT 500 style... I have an email out to this company asking about dimensions..

Just did mine. Ill have to get some Pics and post them up. Had to Epoxy elevator bolts to the outer sides to bring it down. It has pulled up twice so I may need to rivet it in a few spots.

Awesome, can't wait to see what it looks like! Did you do it yourself? Or did a shop do it?

possibly looking at this one as well... yes I know its for a Chevy....

Additionally I sourced a shop that is willing to do it... didn't know that was going to be an issue.. lots of places don't "have time" or "Don't want to cut into a factory hood"...

I will probably inquire about hood pins as well per BPD's recommendation.

I remember a thread floating around some time ago about a member installing a ZL1 style heat extractor.  I thought it looked good, and love the idea of them on these cars.

Edit: found the thread, but pics are no longer working.  Darren M was the OP

I have an appointment later this week when I get my car back from the dealer to have a quote done on the install. I know my limitations...and cutting into the hood would be a disaster for me.

Sorry it took me so long. Here is what it looks like. Put it in more for the functionality to help with IAT's.

Like the GT style vent :thumb:  Looks stupendous!

Consider that the most heat gets trapped over bank 1 though, next to the firewall.  A pic was posted showing where snow melted first.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

@DerrickSho saw your car on the fb group. Love the exterior upgrades.
I had asked you about the window vent visor things from weathertech. I still havent ordered them yet.

I would love to put either the GT500 vent or the GT vents on my hood but I would have to have someone do it for me. I couldnt stand messing it up. I wonder what a body shop would charge for that? There isnt anyone local to me that has done it already to their SHO.

If I recall when I was wandering around here when looking to buy my SHO it was routinely mentioned to remove the windshield flashing to allow hot air to escape.  I would think that and the hood vents in unison would offer considerable improvement to underhood temps and vent that firewall area...
