Removing 3rd cat?

So, by removing the 3rd cat, does the car still pass emissions?  Are there any codes it throws with that gone?
Is removing it legal in all states but CA?  In CA they probably get the death penalty for removing emissions equipment...LOL!

Any guidance would be helpful.

Yes it should pass emissions with the 3rd cat absent.  Only the primary cats matter.  Visual inspection or tailpipe inspection might end differently, but an OBD check will be no issue.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Thanks.  After going through the sound posts, that seems like a decent low cost step.

It would be illegal federally but the good thing is you don't typically see federal agents citing people for tampering with emission control devices

You can just gut the thing and leave it in place. Messy but easy. I personally would advise on keeping the resonator however. Its straight through and causes no restriction. I made the mistake of getting rid of mine and boi does it resonate (boom) at certain rpms (2,500). No codes or any issues there as well.
