Haven't taking the sho on a road trip since DP's and cat back. Just went to visit my daughter at college. 230 mile trip and thought I would check mpg just for kicks. I usually don't worry to even look. About 75 miles in I was averaging about 29.9 mph and hit 30 a time or two. This was on I40 so speeds were in the upper 70's to low 80's most of the time. Got into some stop and go traffic when almost there and when I arrived I was still at 28.3. On the lie o meter anyway. Still had half a tank and curious to see what she gets for the entire tank. I had never seen over 25 before?

That's certainly impressive! I currently avg 16.8 mostly city miles!! .
If i reset the trip monitor on the highway the most would be 25 mpg.
The only time it was above 28 mpg was when it was new and stock which only lasted a few months until the Mod bug Bit.  Z  :)

Doesnt AJP have a decent MPG tune that will net a MPG or two?

My AJP tune nets me 28mpg pretty much everywhere I go on The highway.  It easily beat the factory calibration on the sole trip I took her on before it was tuned.

Factory tune from northwest central PA to Smokey Mountain NP netted me 26mpg.

That is the benefit of non-PP, lower drive ratio.

Pretty good there! I just did a trip from OKC to Phoenix and back... about 950 miles 1 way. I was using my Unleashed 91 tune for the trip. Trip meter said 27.1 mpg for the entire OKC to Phoenix trek and 27.3 mpg for Phoenix to OKC. My best 200 mile stretch from Gallup, NM to Rye, AZ was 29.8 mpg. Tons of mountain grades and elevation changes.

it's pretty amazing that a 400hp engine can get this good of mileage.

Na, I am surprised people are surprised by this.   If you are not accelerating or in boost it is essentially a 3.5 liter duratech engine.   the 3.7 and 3.3 duratech engines make decent mileage under those conditions.

Yeah think about the RPM you are at. Roughly 2000rpm is 80mph so she is not struggling.

Funny tho my 2000 Buick Regal GS with a 3.8 ltr Supercharged got 30mpg at 70 mph and my 2015 SHO gets 27mpg. Could be speedos accuracy etc but still funny.

SHO certainly is faster and quieter and more reliable etc etc. Plus a bigger trunk. Now thats funny.

I think the curb weight helped a teensy bit, but still 30 mpg is always welcome!  Esp considering the number of years difference and advancements since then.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

i'm amazed because the car was moving over 5000 lbs up and down mountain grades with ease and getting upper 20's mpg.

Yeah the engine is a solid piece of engineering, once they solve the valve coking with a throttle body injector it will be close to perfect.

I can manage to get 30-31MPG on my FWD 3.5L Limited when I actually try to be fuel economy minded.
