Damn! that seems a bit excessive IMO!! I could be related to your PCV system. Z
Since having Meth installed the tailpipes are much cleaner. Z

Goodness! I am sorry your not feeling well. My post came across kinda tart didnt it? I tend to do that..sorry. Unless there is more to the PCV system than I know.. time to take a look.

No worries it all good!! . :) I would add a bottle of Chevron fuel system cleaner or a few ounces of Marvel mystery oil to every tank to see if it helps any.
I think you have a job 1 SHO IIRC which has a heated PCV and might be worth while to have it changed especially if original. Z

Definitely check the engine oil you are using for low volatility/Noack.  How do the intake valves look, clean?  Wonder if the O2 sensors are also getting coated ...  Spark plug gap?

Z, hope you get to 100% soon, no good being sick!

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Good points! Haven't scoped the intake valves but I do know the plug gap is good. The O2 do get covered, but they seem to be functioning fine.
Engine oil probably needs to be sent off for analysis...

It is weird... stock programming and the soot issue is non existent. Throw a tune on it, and it's sooty...

I will say that the LMS tunes produce a significant amount less to almost no soot after the initial trims get set...

Just seems to be the SCT based tunes..

Check your map sensors for any evidence of oil present.
I had the dealer perform a intake cleaning a couple yrs back which was inserted through the  Plenum. Z

You have logged with the X4 with both the LME and the SCT tunes, right SBS?  Nothing sticks out in the data?  Are there some parameters that havent yet been logged that are now due?  Is mpg better with the LME tune, since it seems to be burning cleaner?

I would say time to try an E blend, but that may only hide the issue rather than expose it.

I have logged both yes. The LMS tunes tend have better fuel trims... closer to 1 if you factor in LTFT's and STFT's so I do think that plays into it. Brad mentioned that SCT has really funky idling values for my strategy, he said he was surprised it idled at all.

I did run an E blended tune, and yes, that did make a difference.

Unfortunately I can't tell if I am getting much soot when driving around lol..

I did become much worse after the down pipes but that could have been the stock cats filtering out all the crap.

I follow a crazy over the top maintenance regimen with my plugs and fluids. Haven't touched the PCV gear at yet.. I will take a look at it...

The map sensors are generally pretty clean, they do get a very small amount of residue on them from the oil but that's not unusual. Not something you can see but you can feel it.

Maybe time to get the intake cleaned up? But I figured the meth would take care of that?

Dunno...

I think it is more likely the combustion cycle, and that leads to intake and exhaust valve overlap values.  That is an important factor in emissions these days.  Since these can be changed via recalibration, perhaps something to look at.
