What is this part and what does it do?

OK, was checking out my bay this evening preparing for a meth kit install (finally) when I saw this strange thing. It caught my attention since I was reading SHOdded's stage 3 install on a 13 ecoboost located here and noticed his install pic of the nozzle location was missing it.

There are no plugs on it, no sensors, held on by a retainer clip and was super simple to pop off for pics. I'm assuming it has to do with emissions, but am not totally sure so here I am. It does have a vent hole on the cone end. I didn't try to blow through it though as it was sort of oily and I didn't want a ring on my face this evening.

After googling the part numbers(?) AG13-9P437-AB (f) and  PBT-ASA-GF20 (b), I came up with notta. I even tried to hunt it down on the diagrams on parts sites with no luck.

Finally the real question, if it is emission junk can it safely be deleted? Obviously it'd go away with hard pipe install, but wth is this thing? If not, what is the actual part number so I can go by my local dealer and pick it up for a replacement once I drill the OEM out? I may just slide by and ask a mechanic there if no one actually knows.

Even further image googling of 2010-11? bays or the explorer sport don't appear to have this thing but have the same sensors. Can I get that plastic elbow from a that and replace/drill on it for my meth install? I'd like to keep my factory parts factory and this seems like a good idea.

It makes a fart sound under max load, in order to appeal to the masses for a more sporty sound....

On a serious note, it's a noise maker, it's sole purpose is to project more engine noise into the drivers cabin for a more sport like sound. I am dead serious and not joking... it can safely be deleted. However you will need to find something to close the hole. Search for forum for "noise maker delete" and you will find more info...

Beautiful. I figured it was something along those lines. I had seen a few people mention the noise maker delete but never really knew what they were talking about and didn't care enough to look in to it. Thank you for the thread and info. I guess I have another mod to perform when I do my install :)

Eco Power Parts sells the noisemaker delete hard pipe seperate from the full hotpipes. IIRC its like $150 or so for just the noismaker delete pipe. It is also a nice aluminum pipe to add meth nozzles to. May be worth looking into.

For those curious, the official part number for the OEM FoMoCo "Manifold Outlet Tube to Intercooler" is AA5Z6F073C. It's the same thing we have except missing the noise maker outlet. Can't find it for less than $92 though. I'll be calling around to the local salvage yards tomorrow to see if they have any mks, explorer sports or flex on the lots.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I tried the cap blew off. Tried a cap and coupler. Blew off. One of the guys on here found us this and been working great. I have meth and just didn't wanna spray it next to the noise maker. As far as I can tell it just makes a thud sound.

Hope you have better luck than I do. I tried the salvage yard route (to find one WITH the noisemaker port), and it wasn't a part they saved once they stripped everything down. I sent pictures and made calls to several yards and finally gave up and ordered new.

I also did a part search using junkyarddog.com and the one place that got back to me actually quoted a higher cost than new.

Maybe you'll get lucky and find one before they pull the engine.

Also, FYI, the XSport elbow is a slightly different length/angle than the SHO. You might be able to get it to work, but you'd likely have to reuse your OE CAC to elbow hose.

Also, here's a thread with the dimensions for the XSport elbow. @BlueSHO tried the XSport elbow, but opted to return his for the PI sedan elbow.
