Ok, DSS has informed me the mounting plates for the shaft are about done. They will be spinning the shaft soon and shipping ASAP. They had a bunch of none related issues that slowed this whole thing down but the time is now fast approaching.

Who is looking to get in on a group purchase?

Oh snap! Nice work and what a fantastic update!

I can place a deposit down, that's about it for now.

No effing way in hell I'm coming up w/the full amount before Christmas.

No way.

Middle or end of January I can pay remaining balance.

Hello Folks,

Sorry for the long delay. Here is the latest news. I was in contact with Drive shaft shop and working with them to create one piece replacemet shaft. The final dimensions to make it safe came to be too large to fit in the tunnel. When I approched them about modifing the plan to make the shaft a 2 piece upgrade instead, they cut off communications with me. I am currently talking with Kerbid, the makers of the VooDooChikin Polyurethane Carrier Bearing for the CTS-V. I purchased a used Shaft off of ebay and sent it to them so they can develop a product for the SHO. After speaking with them they same the stock shaft while not ideal, is still plenty strong and could benift from the Bearing upgrade. While it wont let me hit my goal of 300KPH on the autobahn, it will enable a long life of dig racing and hard driving for the rest of you.

Remeber that the JTEK setup in the SHO, and all D3's probably is Front wheel Drive biased, that is, that the rear wheels dont put down most of the power, they just help out when the fronts slip. As such, the shaft dosent see as much torqe applied as a normal RWD car does, but it does continually spin at the rate of speed the car is traveling. This makes the poly bearing even more attractive in my mind.

Let me know what you all think. I dont have a completion time for a test part yet, (the OEM method for attaching the Stock Bearing is molding), once they figure out if they can do it ill let everyone know. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more of the dirty details...

Odd the original vendor ceased all communications.

An unfortunate delay and proverbial monkey wrench tossed into the equation regrettably.

Although it is encouraging hearing that another vendor is following suit and picking up the torch, only to carry it to its' next leg of completion.

Still subscribed, & still interested.

On behalf of the entire community, thank you for your relentless, continued due diligence on this project.

More updates as they occur please.

Yeah it is odd that they just stopped responding to my emails. Even after they already did some of the work with the CNC adaptor plates. They do so much business thou that its probably more trouble for them than its worth if they percieve that market isnt big enough for the time invested.

Most failures i have seen are at the carrier bearings and pinion seals.  So might be some truth to it.  Many more AWD owners than just the SHO would be interested in such an upgrade.

My 2010 PP was developing a vibration under torque between 40 and 70. Figured out the carrier bearing is dried up and binding. Bought a cheap Cardone chinese made rear shaft on eBay that arrived bent from UPS. So, kept digging and found out that Dorman makes an upgraded propeller shaft for the SHO. It is "OE UPGRADE". IE: U joint and carrier bearing is replaceable and serviceable! Ford Stock prop shafts are NOT serviceable at the U joint and Carrier bearing. Since it's my track car, this opens up the ability to upgrade the carrier bearing etc too. These are made to order and mine arrives today. Will take pics, install it and test drive it today.

Wow it's been a while since I've been on the forum, let alone looked into this issue again, as I have been moving around alot in Europe as the car gets put back together... very good info on  the prop shaft, IMHO this is a Must have upgrade for any track car or car that sees high highway speeds on the regular like mone does here in Europe

I have the DORMAN Prop Shaft in my 2010 PP. (Bearing and U joint are serviceable....) So far so good.

However, due to autobahn's 2x failures of the FoMoCo shaft, the weak point appears to be the carrier bearing area. Hence, I'm going to look at sourcing a LARGER carrier bearing and reinforced bracket. Between the dead weight of the shaft and rotating mass, it just takes a bump in the road to fail the bracket or bearing (if it's dried out...). Having the third CAT right underneath it doesn't help the rubber or grease either. So, a heat shield may help slow down the  degradation of the rubber polymers and grease. Just my two EURO's regarding the Autobahn stress tests. :)

The Weak Point is ABSOLUTLY the Carrier bearing and the Bearing Brace point.

I have suspicions this particular failure was a result of a Heavy Handed AWD Dyno and a weakened brace point from the first failure. What really pisses me off is I just put a Brand new CORSA Cat back on the Car, ( the previous one was mangled by the last failure ), and it is now banged up all to hell.

For anyone who is curious, Both Shafts were of the OEM Ford variety. I had previously reached out to VooDoochikin https://kerbid.com/ ; to ask about upgrading the Carrier bearing, even bought a used Driveshaft and had it sent to him to see if it was doable. But alas the OEM carrier is molded onto the shaft.

If the DORMAN shaft is FULLY serviceable i would re-approach, but that does not solve the issue of the weak mount point...

The first failure occurred at 170 MPH, and was due purely to Over speed. This second failure happened at around 115 MPH... so my money is on Weakness of the Welds from the previous repair and or a misalignment at the Carrier mount. Both Shafts Broke in the EXACT Same location.

I may just run my car FWD only again for awhile... I need a reliable Car here in Romania, (i moved), i cant be dealing with custom shaft issues here...

On a positive note the car made 530+ horse and over 600 ft pounds on the last dyno run at time of failure...

Once i get all my House hold goods here i can post pictures if anyone wants...
