Random non start

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum. I have a 2014 ford taurus sho 48k, that's been to the dealership 6 times in the last 2 months and no answers. So I figured I turn to the forums and see if anyone else has this issue or have heard of anyone else with it. I have a random starting issue. 90 % of the time the car starts and drives just fine. The other 10 % it won't start. The motor keeps turning but wont start and I know there's spark. Ive had a new fuel pump put in a few months ago and still having the issue. The car will not throw a code, the dealer has checked and rechecked and rechecked everything and they keep telling me everything is fine. Then 3 days later the car arrives on a tow truck and they have it for a week or 2 and no issues found. They send it back to me works for a few days or weeks then I go out to leavr and it won't start. Car parks in a heated garage.  I would really really love some advice if anyone has it. I have a aftermarket warrenty but they won't fix anything until it's diagnosed but ford has no idea. Welcome aboard the E.B.P.F Kopez03 and due setup an INTRO for yourself simply by following the link below. Z
I would start off by trying a new different dealer such as a Lincoln dealer to troubleshoot your issue.
Is the battery original ?
It could also be a leaky injector.
Any smell of gas?
Did you have the FDM recall performed? Z

Yeah I was thinking trying a new dealer next time it does it. Battery is original. Car has awesome cranking power. As for the recalls ford said they have done everything that the car is qualified for. Only time I've ever smelt gas was a few weeks ago. I filled it up brought it home and parked it in the garage and the next morning my whole garage stunk like gas. Drove it to work and never smelt it again.

Does sound like either the fuel delivery module recall issue, or more likely, an EVAP issue with the canister/canister purge valve.  Do you stop fueling at the first clickoff?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I usually round up when I'm filling to 10 cents. So funny thing went out there this morning to start it and no luck. The car wouldn't start. So I had a random idea to push the car backwards a foot and retry to start it. Well it fired right up like it should. So now I'm really confused on why moving the car a foot in neutral and putting it back in park and trying to restart it actually worked.

Did the car crank?  The next time around try pressing the push button start twice and then put your foot on the brake pedal and move the shifter throughout the gears slowly for a few times and then back to park to see if it starts.

I was also curious if you hear any type of odd sound's/noise's coming from the back seat area while driving? Z

Is the shifter button an issue on the SHO like it is for the Explorer? Occasionally, I get a message in the message center when I shut off the car that says "shift to park". Flicking the shifter button a few times trips the switch and allows the vehicle to realize it actually is in park, and the message goes away. I've never tried starting in this condition, but I imagine it would not allow it.

Next time you experience the issue, confirm the "P" on your gear indicator is illuminated orange (or red - I'm color deficient). If everything is white, then it doesn't know what gear it's in, and flicking the shift button until the "P" lights up orange/red should resolve it.

Not sure if this is your issue, but something to keep an eye on, since moving the shifter seemed to have a temporary positive effect.

Sweet, thanks!!! I had seen others get their whole shifter assembly replaced (for ~$450, if not under warranty) only to have the message show up again 20-30k mi later. Had no idea there was a cable adjustment, so I just kept flicking the lever switch. LOL

Haven't had the issue for a couple months (comes and goes), but I will definitely check out the adjustment procedure. Thanks again!
