I have a 2011 Flex Ecoboost that just seized. Bought it used as a ford certified pre-owned with 30,000 miles in Jan of 2014. Got the extended warranty due to it being an ecoboost.
Oct 29, 2016 front turbo goes bad dealer replaces and says that someone else had worked on that turbo. I hadn't and had no idea what was done before we bought it
Dec 24, 2016 both turbos go bad. Same dealer pulls the oil filter and says it's full of metal. After going back forth with ford customer service and the dealer asking for a crate motor due to all the metal found. Nope, Ford engineers have the dealer pulling valve covers looking for sludge so they can blame it on a lack of maintenance. Nope, all clean. Next steps(per engineers) is to pull the oil pan and timing cover and clean everything as best as they can. Replace turbos and intercooler, run engine, change oil again and return to customer. I called Ford again to make a case for complete replacement due to metal in the block and the inability of anyone to clean out all of the oil passages. Nope, they run with the turbo replacement and oil changes.
Feb 2, 2017. We finally get the car back(thank God Ford gave us a loaner for the month they had our car. although it was there by no fault of ours and a lack of parts on the shelf caused the delay).
Feb 4, 2017. I have the car on the highway for the first time and it seizes solid and blows the front right shaft out of the tranny. WTF?!? 62k and it's gone? they sure don't make them like they used to.
I was informed that there aren't any replacement engines anywhere. I told Ford Customer Service "there aren't any spares because they are self destructing due to design flaws that the corporate office doesn't want to admit. You and I both know that down on the assembly line they are putting ecoboost engines in new Flex's all day today, send a couple guys down there to grab one of those engines and send it to the dealership"
