I was at the track today testing/tuning my Cobalt SS Turbo when I saw a gentleman with a 2015 SHO. He ran a 12.7 @ 106 when I was paying attention. He had an open exhaust downstream of the cats, a Diablo tune, a drop-in K&N filter, smaller diameter wheels with drag radials, and a manual boost controller. I saw a vacuum hose/check valve attached to something on his intake manifold. He was also running the stock 2-bar MAP. He didn't mention methanol injection and I didn't see a tank. He tried to do a burnout in the box and the car just chirped. It made me wish my Cobalt was RWD or AWD.
I haven't had the time to bring my 14 SHO to the track to get some baseline runs. What's achievable with just a tune? I thought the stock SHO's were running high 13s and trapping around 102 mph?
FWIW my Cobalt was running 14.2s all day long with 8 year old factory tires (ContiSportContact 2 summer tires) but with speeds averaging 106-108 mph. The more power I grab out of that engine (the cast pistons are the first limiting factor), the less traction I get for launching. It makes me wonder what I could do with the EcoBoost Mustang even if it is only a 4-banger.
