Anyone here with a Coyote Mustang?

On a bit of a whim, I test drove a new Mustang GT.  I was shocked and extremely impressed at how refined and comfortable these new ones are.  I had driven the last generation and found them to be a bit crude in terms of ride as well as interior.  Not so the new ones!  The interior is as nice as a SHO and many of the same options like heated/cooled seats, sync 3, adaptive cruise, BLIS, etc are available.  The ride is surprisingly civilized, too.

I am seriously considering ordering a fully loaded 2017 to replace my MKS.  How crazy is that?   I no longer commute to work every day and we also have a 2014 Taurus for the times we need a car with a back seat and big trunk. 

I would have to have a tune for the Coyote engine and I realize it won't make nearly the difference that tuning an ecoboost does.  Anyone on this forum own or have experience with these latest generation 'stangs?

I had a 2012 Mustang GT, the tuning for the 2015+ is going to be very similar.

-3.73's
-Brembo brake package
-Comfort Package
-HID Package
-19x9/10 Boss 302 Laguna Seca wheels from Ford Racing
-Pirelli P-Zero 255/285 19" street tires.
Added an MGW shifter assembly for better and more precise shifting.

With a 412hp stock Coyote, Roush axle-back mufflers, and a custom tune, mine laid down 388 rwhp.  Would have been approximately 456 crank horsepower.  The 2015+ GT's have 435hp crank, stock, so you'll be able to lay down a bit more with a tune.

Stock 1/4 mile was 13.05 @ 108 mph
Tuned 1/4 mile was 12.59 @ 113 mph

Thanks Capri.  I have raced them and beaten them with my tuned MKS when they are stock so I was curious how they ran with a tune.  Ford Performance now offers kits including tunes for the Coyote.   My guess is that Ford's tunes are pretty conservative but there are many aftermarket options.

Hey bruce i have a 2014 GT but i put a twin turbo on it....the coyotes love breathing mods and respond well with a tune but not like our sho's...N/A cars never will

But james gordon of tuning by james is my mentor lol....the guy really pays attention to detail but is not well known...he is an awsome mustang tuner and doesnt not take shortcuts

I have a 2011 GT auto and love it so far.  Get's better mileage in town and on the highway than the SHO did. Don't have as much interior room of course and going to have to get another car for winter but so far I'm loving it. If you're going to get one, my $0.02 is to get a 6R80 auto car instead of the 6 speed, much stronger and more reliable.

On our notoriously poor local track (up-hill the whole 1/4 mi and poor track prep) it's already ran faster than my  '11 SHO with only ~$500 worth of mods done to the 5.0.  I kept my MyCal that I had for my SHO and Livernois hooked me up with tunes for the 5.0 for free and I was very impressed. Ran 14.0 @ 107mph stock. With only intake, axleback, and LMS tune it's now gone 12.84@112mph

Yeah, Tuning by James is kind of a dark horse in the race.  I have seen a few reviews, all praises, of his work so far though.

I hear ya, I think I have the driver mod going for me.  I've raced one Coyote Mustang, and he wasn't able to catch or pass me up to around 100mph, and then at the track when I was stock, there wasn't a single Coyote Mustang running faster than a 13.8 (slower than my stock time), and the same track that I ran a 13.05 when my Mustang was stock.
