Was out datalogging the other day and it was nice out...about 75. In-between runs while parked and checking out the data i saw my iat2 was about 160. So i opened the hood and wanted to see what happened...i expected to see a dramtic drop but i did not.

Which tells me the air raid cai i have must draw air from outside when the hood is closed...i have a nice impression of the cai seal on the hood insulation

The general ideas here are that some of the claimed cai are sucking in hot engine air

Iat2 is the intake temp at the map sensor and its the temp that spark and fuel compensations are based on...iat temp is at the air filter pipe and charge air cooler temp is the tip sensor i believe which is just after the intercooler but before throttle body

Definitely, proper CAI seal is key, as many have proven in the past.  Some have even insulated the CAI further!

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

manu:
i have a k&n on my other car & insulated it right up to the hood & put some of that heat soaking aluminum tape rich found all around the inside & have my obd gauge & noted the same lack of difference in temps that atp did. like you said the key is to mod whatever unit you have to keep engine air out. whats i think that is even better is one that is enclosed from the factory witch volant makes, sadly no unit for the sho

Chalk that lip and see the gaps it leaves around the contours of the hood liner...at least a few gaps. Water pipe insulation 1/2" works great for adding to the seal.

Even with that, a prolonged idle through the staging lanes had my IAT1 at 110* & Iat2 at 140+ a few days ago at Milan.

Yeah im just saying im not worried about the cai contributing to high iat's..hot engine and warm ambient temps will give high iat's...i wouldnt even call it heat soak, but rather normal operating conditions

Yeah, we need a magical intercooler it seems to be in prime conditions at launch time?
