Hello everyone!

I am actually in the market for a Taurus and weighing my options. I am looking for a SHO or a 2.0L Ecoboost and am gathering information. I usually slightly mod my cars and both the SHO and 2.0L have it's plus and minuses.

The 2.0L is harder to find than the SHO. I can get into a 2014 or so 2.0L Limited for the price or an older SHO with low miles (say 2011). I hear the AWD and the trans can be a little cranky on those. I am hoping that this forum can help me make an informed decision on which way to go.

My toy car is a 1995 Ford Thunderbird with a lot done to it and currently daily drive a 2011 Ford Fiesta SES that my kids will be driving. On the Thunderbird, I have shaved off 1.2 seconds in the 1/4 with transmission and very light engine mods. I love the car but I am not sure if I am keeping it after I get the Taurus or not.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the 2.0L Taurus?

Around here in IL you could swing a 2013 for around 25k.  I bought a 2011 but regret not getting a 2013 with the updated electronics, brakes, and styling.

You should be able to find a pretty nice SHO for 25 large.

The 2.0 will never get to the performance level of the SHO, and an attempt to do so would probably cost a fortune.

The 2.0 is an economy option for the Taurus.

The stats in my SIG cost me $400 to get to that level.

I'm about 4 revisions past that now.

Another member just went 12.49 with no bolt ons, just a 3bar sensor and tune.....for $400

IMHO there's no question, get the SHO.

Id also research the difference between Performance Package and non, especially if you can get into a 2013+

I traded my non-PP car for a PP car and I'm very glad I did.

Yeah 25k should cover you on a low mileage 13+. I paid that for a 13 MKS fully loaded with 20k on the dial.

Welcome, James, good luck in your quest!  If having a SHO is not a MUSTHAVE, then consider an MKS instead.  You can find pretty good values in the used car market.  Also consider adding on a Ford ESP plan once you buy it to save you dollars & headaches down the road.  ESPs can be purchased online from Flood Ford, Lombards, Anderson Koch etc. at a discount compared to your local dealer.

I agree with Shodded... Get a good extended warranty. These are high tech machines.  Also I must note some variation in the car probl m websites data... TrueDelta ( http://www.truedelta.com/car-reliability?preview=1 ) lists the 2014 as the highest number of reported repairs.... True delta does not include maintenance.  For the 2014 they report 53 repair visit per 100 cars, but most were for body and trim and 0 for engine. Of the current generation the 2013 is listed as lowest with 14 repair visits per 100 cars. Transmission and PTU are about equal on all of the 2013-2016 model years on the site.... So check a bunch of the car probl m sites.

Nope still got the MKS-T. When I called they had verified it was outside warranty so been shopping for n ESP.

Good info I had no idea! I guess it is best to wait until you are nearing the end of your standard warranty? TX, did you just up the power train or what options did you have and what kind of dollars are we talking if you don't mind sharing.

Good info I had no idea! I guess it is best to wait until you are nearing the end of your standard warranty? TX, did you just up the power train or what options did you have and what kind of dollars are we talking if you don't mind sharing.


I opted for the premium ESP warranty which Flood Ford quoted $1412 and Lincoln wanted $2490 for same exact coverage and deductible. Even the inspection fee was cheaper with flood ford $98 vs $150. Pays to read threads even when it don't apply to you lol.

It's not so much Ford vs Lincoln, most dealerships will quote you the same msrp on the warranty.  It's the few dealerships selling the warranties high volume online that brings the price down.  I actually got my ford dealer to come down to 50 bucks above the Lombard warranty price and that saved me the hassle of having to get it inspected somewhere else.
