Proper tire/wheel setup, alignment, and launching correctly are all key to eliminating wheel hop (on a good road surface, of course).  Suspension improvements like springs and coilovers make a significant difference also (can cut 1-2 tenths off a quartermile ET!).

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I had issues on the 1-2 shift with wheel hop/traction. Torrie worked around it by adjusting the shift parameters. Just have to find the ideal shift setup to keep from blasting the tires.

This is encouraging.

These heavy AWD cars are spinning tires going into 2nd? How large is your meth nozzle?

Yeah I used to get wheel spin into 2nd on cold tires. Enough to bring the traction control light on but now it rarely happens.

I'm running a 12 gph nozzle.

I did it with 17" drag radials and coilovers :)

Sometimes a "stutter" between the 1-2 shift has been misdiagnosed as wheel hop.  It can be caused by too much shift pressure but others seem to have eliminated it with a simple transmission fluid change.  The stutter has been described as the car attempting to shift - not shifting - attempting to shift - not shifting and then shifting - all of this in a split second.

Mine was fine for over a year and a half.  It would chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift easily and on some surfaces, it would break the tires loose completely but I never had wheel hop or stutter.  All of a sudden, mine began this wheel hop or shift stutter crap.   I had the shift pressure reduced and it solved the issue.  When I decided to go drag racing, I changed the transmission fluid and put the higher pressure shift tune back in.   I haven't had the issue again and that has been over a year ago and 30 or so drag strip runs.

I changed the fluid and the "hop" went away as well.

It is very easy... one plug directly under the car.

Interesting point on changing the transmission fluid.  I don't have issues with wheel hop but will be changing my fluid at 30k for preventative maintenance.

Hey guys thanks for all your replies i fixed what was happening by changing to the 4x soft shift tune.

Brandon, I also switched to the softer shift tune for awhile.  It was a discussion with the tuner who put doubt in my mind that I was feeling wheel hop at all.  His point was that the high pressure shift "stutter" feels like wheel hop but is not.  As I said before, when I decided to take my car to the track, I changed the ATF and put the high pressure shift tune back in.  I have not had the issue since even with the high pressure tune.  By the way, I just changed my ATF again after only 10,000 miles just as a precaution.

One other thing to ponder:  Some have suggested that the transmission's adaptive learning feature can play a role in this.  I know of cases where simply reloading the same tune has seemingly eliminated this issue.  For all I know, that is why my issue went away and it had nothing to do with the ATF change.   :dunno:
