Strange thing happened

Strange experience happened in my SHO today.

Just sitting at a red light and took off when it turned green. A car cut me off so I had to hit the brakes hard, after that, my car started to idle real hard, blue smoke started to come out both tailpipes, pulled over in walmart parking lot to see what's up, the car didn't want to stay running. Then everything on my instrument panel lit up. So I turned off the car and restarted it and everything cleared up, except for my engine check light, the car at this time was still running rough. Took it home, had the wife rev the engine up to see if there's any blue smoke or something smelling funny coming out the exhaust, nothing. So I unplugged the battery for about a hour and hooked it back up and now my car runs fine. Did I flood my engine or something when I hit the brakes that hard?
Should I be worried about anything?

Totally guessing here, but if the PCV system on your SHO has enough blowby on a normal basis, and/or has buildup in the intercooler, then maybe the sudden "fuel cutoff" let unburnt hydrocarbons into the exhaust system, lit by the heat in the catalytic converters, leading to the smoke you saw.  Might even have had a bit of liquid pool in the cylinders, sending the SHO into an all-out panic.

So definitely check to see if any codes were set tho, they don't always trigger a CEL, though might have during the situation.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I would take precaution and monitor for any codes in order to troubleshoot the root cause of your issue, especially after the check engine light came on,how many miles on your SHO?probably not related but did you ever have the power steering recall performed.Btw any rain or car wash prior or during the incident.  Z

My SHO only has 58000 miles on it. Just came out of the local spray and wash car wash also. No polish, damn Midwest weather sucks, one day it's 70 tomorrow 35 degrees with rain or snow..

Drove the car today and it ran great! Still kinda scared when I drive it until I get the trust back for it

Z made a good point with the car wash/rain there.  We have had very similar incidents that sometimes ended up being blown turbo seals.  I wonder if the water was cold enough to create a temporary F150-like situation at the intercooler?  Doesn't sound plausible (Ford should've accounted for it) though.

I would just avoid any automatic high spray car washes for the meantime, personally like to use a hand car wash which provides a better and safer overall experience, best of luck and keep us updated.  Z
