Is the part a resonator or a CAT and will removing affect an auto inspection with or without a stage 4 tune?

There is a third cat and a resonator.....simple answer is no...but i think in California they put cars on a dyno of some sort with a tail pipe test...im not sure how that would go

I have the Corsa (cat back)exhaust which incorporates no 3rd cat or resonator and never had issues passing strict emmissions testing here in N.Y along with the PPE CATTED DP FROM 4DRHTRD EPP.  Z

If I was you, i wouldn't fabricate or  modify the factory exhaust. By the time you pay a shop and for parts, for a bit more you can get a new exhaust that will get rid of rear cat and the resonator. If need be for the emission testing you can always go back to stock due to the fact that your system will be bolt on as opposed if you have a shop weld in your factory exhaust, in which case you might need to pay  a shop again to revert back to factory cat.

Another question, will you leave the front factory cats on? Why not just replace the front cats and leave the rear  on. This way you will gain more power, it will cost you less, and you might gain a bit of sound you are looking for.

To pass you need the two on the downpipes, thats where the o2 sensors are.  I have PPE catted dps flowing to a magnaflow X, which is in place of the third cat/resonator mess.  I pass NC emission easily, and they tap into your OBD2 port, so its somewhat strict here.

I here all the time that turbo cars don't need xpipes (i doubt they hurt power on our cars) so i would get catted dps and straight pipe it to your stock mufflers, or after market mufflers, whichever you want.  Dont spend 1500 on aftermarket cat back, i think its a waste of money.

Regardless of whether you modify the exhaust beyond the DPs... The cats on the DPs are the biggest factor IMHO. That passes visual inspection (if you have it) as part of the emissions check and, because the O2 sensors can be left on with catted DPs (preventing a CEL or OBD2 saying the emissions system is not functional)the readiness test is passed when they plug in to the OBD2 (which is only to see if all the components of the emissions system are functioning).

jayskycj,

Do you have any videos of your exhaust with the stock muffs?

It cost me $125 to remove the 3rd cat and resonator ... Still have stock mufflers.

That sounds good. It has a little more volume and I guess a bunch more flow.
