Datalogging with Torque

So, I picked up an OBDLinkXL and have the Torque Pro app on my phone.  I spent a lot of time setting up a dashboard, and tried to do a datalog when I dropped the car off for service Monday morning.  Lo and behold, to my surprise, Torque defaulted to only datalogging the GPS portion :(

I basically setup the datalogging pids to match what I have setup on my dashboard.  What are some of the important ones that I should log to see what the car is doing?  It's currently stock, but I plan on doing basic things here and there, and want to make sure my car is reacting properly.

I don't have my phone in here with me, but I think this is what I have right now:

Gear
Engine speed
Vehicle speed
Engine Coolant Temperature
Trans temperature
Oil Temperature
Vacuum/Boost
Knock
AWD %

Obviously, some of these probably aren't needed, and others might be more needed with/after a tune.  There's just so many to choose from :D

Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

The dashboard setup and datalogging setup are separate actions under Torque.  Forscan will log what you put on the dashboard, but it doesn't have any other GUI customizability worth speaking of.

To set up items to log:

  • Start Torque Pro.
  • Click on the GEAR icon in the lower left corner.
  • Click on SETTINGS.
  • Click on DATALOGGING & UPLOAD.  (You would need to go instead into the MANAGE EXTRA PIDs/SENSORS area to add custom PIDs.)
  • Click on SELECT WHAT TO LOG under Logging Preferences.
  • A list of selected PIDs will be displayed.  To add new PIDs for the datalog, click on the "chopped vertical bar" in the top right corner.
  • A list of selectable PIDs will be displayed.  Scroll through the list.  To add a new PID, tap on the one you want.
  • Repeat from step 6 until all desired PIDs are added.
DONE.

Yes, I did get the logging set up, I was curious as to what was deemed "important" as there are a lot of things to log, and you don't want to tie up the limited bandwidth of the port by logging too much.  I'm currently logging what I have setup on my dashboard, as posted above, I also added the Learned Octane Ratio to that.

Fuel pressure, lambda, O2 sensor voltage at a minimum should be added, I think.  If you look at some of the other dashboard layouts (FoMoCoSHO, SHOnUup, LarryLu to name a few), you will get an idea of what other folks are finding useful.  Looking at some of the SCT datalogs will give you an idea what to look at for troubleshooting purposes.  An example header list (SCT naming conventions) is below:
