So loving the extra power from the methanol I recently installed. The one thing that absolutely grinds my gears is the annoying traction control saying no you can't accelerate fast silly! Literally it would probably drive me to trading it in for something else eventually. If not just rip everything off and keep it as a daily.

Literally this video sums my frustration. Have an amazing launch, just the slightest spin and BAM goodbye boost and acceleration. Let's wait til 2nd comes before we accelerate again.

Another one here cutting off power. (gotta love the cool turbo sound at the end :P)

On a side note, I rode in a friends volkswagon gti with 370 crank horse... Thing pulled hard.. A lot harder than my 500ish crank sho.. Kind of depressing if you ask me.. Not trying to complain.. Well wait yeah I am lol. After all it is a Taurus, but still frustrating :P

Cool vid... My '13 nonPP chirps at simple start without launch, at 1-2, and at 2-3 without any hesitation in pulling or changes in my onboard accelerometer G-force monitoring... Maybe a different strategy?

Wojo, you are fairly even with the GTI in HP/lb :)  Not to feel TOO bad.

What tires are you running?  Pressures?  Road/ambient temperature?  Did you feel you lost traction at any point (sounded like skidding at the end)?  Any different feel from when you posted the datalogs (without boosted launch)?  Do you know at what boost level the methanol kicks in?

Check the obvious first:  PTU, RDU, axles for leaks.  Then turn off the methanol, load a non-methanol tune (or stock (I know, I know)) and see if you still experience the issue.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

It was a little cold and I know that is to blame. This happened before methanol too if I did too hard of a boosted launch. I know there's ways around this not happening, but it's still detrimental and annoying haha. I didn't realize the gti weighed around 3k lbs... Silly light! If only the sho had that lovely aluminum body like the new f150 :P

The reason this bugs me is any other performance car wouldn't cut power with a little traction loss. Especially once you turn off the traction control. I just wish it would have been programmable to turn off completely in a tune. Would be so much more fun to do a hard boosted launch and not have to worry about your car going whack on you. I still love the car though.

All of those data logs didn't have a boosted launch simply because no matter what rpm I brake launch from it'd cause spin. Even from a non boosted launch I would sometimes lose traction enough around 25mph to lose power. Hopefully this wouldn't happen on a sticky track and when it gets warmer out.

Also, just running some nitto motivo all season ultra high performance tires. Grip pretty well but they're obviously not a summer tire. This summer I really want to look into a set of rims to throw some nitto nt555r's or something with amazing summer grip.

I don't think tires are the issue, could be wrong tho.  Need to look into the TSBs to see if there is anything similar addressed.

You'll have to break the bank and invest money into some good tires for the summer fun times. Nitto 555r drag is what I run on my other car and I love them, they hook like crazy, however since those don't have the steel sidewal, you have to be careful, in fast turns on wet especially. They wear out quick too, I wouldn't recommend them  on long rides for that reason, but for track, and for a short quick runs around town, good choice.

If you spin and the ECU cut throttle the system is likely malfunctioning... It should transfer power to the rear or other wheels... If all four tires are spinning, then tires may be the answer... if it's only the fronts and power is cut then either there programming is wrong or the system is malfunctioning IMHO.

Like I said earlier my '13 doesn't exhibit the behavior you describe... which would drive me crazy too.... I get enough spin to cause some sideways walking of the front end and no power cut.

Maybe need a filming from outside the car to see what's going on, have somebody watch?

I switch to 17x8 with 275/50R17 M&H drag radials up front and some cheesy cheap tires locally
HUGE difference, no more issues with traction and they tuck :)

So you think maybe the sidewalls are too stiff on the Nitto's?

Im running the motivos in 255/45R20, I have literally at least a hundred hard brake boost launches at the track on those tires, and I have no power cut, but i also have a 13 PP with the ability to completely turn TC off. If i forget to turn off the babysitter button and i floor it from a light with fully aired tires it will cut power prior to the 1-2shift. Feels like it just falls flat on its face. If this happens to you all the time i can see where that would be incredibly frustrating.

I say road condition play a huge difference as well, for example, one side of the road where one tire is, might have more grip as opposed to other, and depending if your wheels are straight or not when you accelerate, or if the road is more tilted to one side. I can see one wheel loosing traction. Many variables. I say, if you can, borrow some good tires from someone just to test it.

Wojomojo

Really wish I would have found a pp edition purely for the traction control system. At the time I didn't know about that and was told it wasn't really worth getting on the 10-12's. I just think it's crazy how it would cut off at 30mph just because of a tiny bit of spin. I like having tires that last and don't have money right now to buy a good summer set. Maybe once it warms up here it won't be as much of an issue. Still sucks knowing that I basically can't brake launch because of some lame system. If there was maybe a nice little wire to snip that'd be nice ;) or at least a manual switch to turn it off.

dont know if anyones researched it, or if its even worth attempting but... If its an option in the 13+ PP i seriously doubt ford used a completely different ECU so maybe its some software changes and a simple switch addition

Justin... I feel your frustration.... have you asked Torrie to turn it off completely in your tune?  Does it do this with stock tune. Sometimes a tune gets corrupted... just computers you know...

I am only asking because I have never heard or seen this behavior myself and I have a '13 nonPP spinning at start and first 2 shifts.
