Swapping T-stat -- To Dex-Cool or not To Dex-Cool THAT is the question

I'm still on the fence to get a new t-stat.  So many opinions out there.  Doesn't help that my car very rarely sees ambient temps over 70F, as it lives in the mountains.  Should I get a 170 t-stat?  In my mind, the 10 diff between stock just doesn't seem worth it?

Worth it if a) you like the gas pedal, b) you face stopngo traffic, c) track it frequently, or d) like to run one of the "hotter" tunes.  The fans may not run as much because the ambient temps are more helpful compared to AZ or even MD (80's-90's regularly, sometimes 100+).

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I would personally go with your tuners specs,if Torrie recommends new plugs and a new stat along with a tune,there are reasons besides better performance and thats keeping the engine as cool as possible,cause the E.B platform has a tendency for getting hot,besides the tune itself putting the extra stress on the motor and drivetrain,and having to change your plugs more frequent alone is a perfect example to follow your tuners specs,in order to get the most benefit from your car and as a safeguard for any issues to arrise,if you waited this long to get a tune,why not follow your tuners specs,two 8mm bolts and extra coolant,easy peasy,no dis intended.Z

If you have the green coolant, you should be able to use Zerex G-05, as long as mine is the green coolant (haven't had a chance to check yet) that is what I will be using. Available on Amazon and Napa

Use what's already in there and keep it OEM as everyone has been saying.

Just for a stupid fun fact, I had to buy coolant for a fiat 500 we were servicing the other day for $45 specialty purple from the dealer. Stupid as hell

Thank you for the replies everyone. I was able to find a local dealership that had the Motorcraft Orange 50/50 mix. It was $13.50 including tax. I'll probably be doing the thermostat when I get back from vacation next week. Thanks for all of the opinions. I really didn't think that the dealerships would keep this stuff in stock.... but they did :)

When i did the Tstat, what little coolant i did lose, couldnt have been more that 2 quarts, the resevoir was down to about 1/4 full, I replaced with regular old H2O and ive had no problems since.
