evap system

So awhile back I smashed the evap canister under the car at the rear passenger side.. Had a new one installed and 3 times to the shop since in the last 2 months because of a code it keeps thowing for evap system leak.. sometimes the small leak code and sometimes the large leak code.. I can never get more than 3 days of driving before it comes back.. 2 dealerships told me nothing they can do because it was an accident and said the whole system needs replacing at my cost.. quote of over 5500 bucks including labor.. can this crap be removed some how... oh and of course for track only use!
wouldn't care much about the light except the car won't remote start when its on.. and its friggin winter!

You are not topping off the gas, right?  Have you tried disconnecting the battery for some time (1/2 hr to an hr)?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Did you go through insurance to get it repaired.

i have had the battery off.. cleared the codes.. taken it back in.. and no didn't bother with insurance cuz the can was only 200 bucksish.. so ya.. dilema

Do you know if they replaced the hoses leading in and out of the evap canister?

I just don't see how the whole system needs replacing if you only smashed the canister, and you replaced the canister. So if the code keeps coming back, that new evap canister could be bad. Did you buy it brand new, or? I would opt for a different one and see if the problem persists.

Only way to properly diagnose a evap system is a smoke test.

True. I would run a fuel treatment and opt for a new part to make sure that new one that you replaced is not bad. If the light still comes on, take in for a smoke test. Also, I'm not sure how reliable are our fuel capless seals. That might be an issue as well.

Besides the hoses coming out of the canister,would also check the purge valve solenoid by the firewall in the engine bay and see if there is suction by removing the hose,its spring actuated and could be closed.

they didn't replace all the hose.. they rigged it back together because some of the hose connectors got pulled out of the hard plastic lines.. they say it would for sure work with just hose clamps and hoses over top of the lines.. I was told probably seal better than factory.. but  yes.. now they want to change them all.. and to do that I am told is remove gas tank.. rear diff, drop the engine down also in the car from underneath.. hence the 5000 dollar quote... if I had known that probably would of used insurance to fix it properly but I listened to the shop and now its an issue.....................

This is ridiculous. If they dont have the equipment to properly troubleshoot and diagnose an evap system, take it elsewhere. This parts swapping BS at your expense is a complete joke.
