50/50 or 100% meth

I have been kicking around getting a meth kit for the rig but have a couple questions about what i should do

what brand?- snow devils own (alky is a bit expensive)

is it safe to run 100% meth?-(explosions)

Gain for using 100% meth rather than 50/50?

from what i have further read i am concerned about cold weather temps. we had -40 for nearly 2 months last winter.

I want to find a system i can get tuned and leave alone 100%

I run 90m/10w. It's been working really well for me. If you go with devil's own you can always upgrade the pump head to 3/8 MPT and get braided hoses so you don't have to worry about leaks. I worried about fires for awhile but it really isn't that hard to engineer around it. I also carry a fire extinguisher just to be safe.

I'm running the Snow Stage 2 kit from Torrie with Snow's Boost Juice, I'm sure it's not the cheapest way to do things but it means Snow will warranty the kit and it's less of a fire hazard, though those concerns may be overblown anyways. Torrie's great to work with as far as tuning the kit, as soon as I get done transferring some files over to my server off my laptop I'm going out for another data logging run with the updated tune he just sent me.

Running 100% Meth.

Have now for nearly 3 years w/o any issue(s) whatsoever.

Daily Driven, and last Winter we here in the Midwest, Chicago particularly, learned a new weather term named "Polar Vortex".

We had record setting sub zero (actual) temperatures for both daytime highs, as well as overnight lows.

Again no issues.

As far as an ongoing expense. Because the Alky Controls Kit I purchased has a progressive control system....

Methanol usage is directly correlated with the Driver's right foot.

Drive like an @ss & you'll go through a healthy amount. Drive even somewhat conservatively, then your usage declines.

I am not a fan of mixing & am more inclined to dispense a 100% solution into the reservoir & forget about it.

Less headache, less nonsense.

A 5gal pail of VP M1 (in my area) with tax, runs about $46.

A 55gal drum, with tax, about $232.

I'm with BBOX. I don't have a kit on my wife's X but I've had a snow system on my other car for five or six years with no problems. I also run their boost juice. It's not even close to a daily driver but I haven't had any issues at all.

By "other car" do you mean the Grand National I see lurking in your signature? And would you mind posting pictures of it in either case?

Would you all advise waiting till engine is at operating temp (or also the trans) before doing any WOT or hard accelerations in a methanol-injected vehicle?

SHOdded your absolutly correct,thats the great feature with the torque app lets you know when the vehicle is at normal operating temp especially in the winter with cold temps.

Well, I'd recommend that regardless of meth usage just because I'm cautious. I definitely make sure to have the car at operating temp before I start cracking her open on my data logging runs.

Absolutely agree with Manu & others.

Regardless of running Meth (or not) none of you should be performing WOT unless EVERYTHING is up to operating temps.

Good point to mention to, is that all the pumps themselves are essentially mfg'd by the same vendor, just re-labeled and re-sold under w/e company one ends up purchasing from.

As such, there are what I learned to be "duty cycles" of 2-3yrs for the pumps when running Meth through them.

So plan on either having your current pump rebuilt, or purchase a new one outright.

I noticed that when my car was stock that it would limit boost until the coolant temps were up. (Yes, I got a little overzealous a few times) 

But I agree with everyone that going WOT prematurely at the very least will wear engine components prematurely.

Worst case is kaboom.

I really want an oil temp gauge for this very reason because the oil doesn't heat at the same rate as engine coolant.

When my engine comes apart, I want it to be because it flat out made more power than it was engineered to handle, not something silly like a lack of cold start discipline.

Yep, you got it. It's a fun toy for sure. Here are a couple of pics with the factory rims and one from when I put the new ones on a few years ago. I also run the snow safe injection deal on mine. If it's not injecting it should dump the boost. I've never needed it yet but hopefully it will save my engine if anything ever happens.
