I had the 1 3/4" blade to start and still found a few places where it didn't touch because of the contours of the underhood insulation. My feelings are that you need the foam to ensure a good seal.

I think another member mentioned by adding an extra layer of padding to the hood and then lining it up with the Airaid box will be a suitable seal from the heat with the original blade.

I'm not sure if I'm going to do the D style stripping.  I tried to get the blade to turn out but it's set in its ways after 30k miles.

That is some pretty good contact. Someone that talked with Airaid said that the blade stripping should be mounted with it folding towards the outside of the box, not inward. Yours is the best non modded contact I've seen though.

Just wanted to give an update, so it's been in for a few weeks. There is no apparent deterioration if the foam seal. I am not surprised, as it's rated for hi heat applications (like HVAC). The seal is still perfect and the hood closes with no additional effort.





I wish it were black but you can't have everything. I will continue to look for a black replacement.

Thx for the update ShoBoat. My slightly different modded box is holding up great also. With having to replace the piping right after CAI that travels down to the front turbo I am going to wrap the underside of the piping(facing block) with the insulation used in the box. We shall see if it helps with controlling IAT2 temps at all. A long heat soak in stop n go traffic I was seeing a 40*-50* above ambient.

ShoBoat that looks great,any kind of high temp black spray paint you can use?also what kind of battery did you put in and why? mine is a MC 650amp and since day one feels kind of weak for my taste.

Thanks, it's a Optima yellow top. With the big Focal amp I have it was needed. Haven't had any issues since I installed it.

i've done lots of painting under the hood on mine & calipher paint should work just fine, actually if you got some heat rated black to paint an outside grill it should work too.

Emailed Airaid on tuesday again,and notified them that my original blade is not hoding up well and coming off at some sections and not sealing properly and requested the updated taller blade which seals all the way around.Today received an email from Mark Fowler from Airaid and said if i could send him some pictures so they could have for there records and he will keep me updated.

 AIRAID responded to my Email After viewing the photos the first thing I did notice is the weather strip is actually installed backwards, the curve of the blade should go away from the air box not towards it. This may or may not be causing the issue however we can get you a replacement. Where are you located? Regarding the taller type strip my guess is you may have been reading some of the recent posts on the forums about customers modifying the Airaid system for track use. We can provide you with the taller strip however if you elect to go this route please use caution as the taller blade type weather strip could potentially create an issue with the hood closing properly and/or premature wear to or actually cutting thru the under hood pad due to the added height.

If you live in a colder climate I can see the taller blade weatherstripping being an issue. That said, the unit should have had a larger D style strip from them. Something that won't pose an issue. Either way they are just passing the buck now. Btw I modded mine for street use, and tested it at the track.

Remember it needs to fold out away from the air box.
