What about third party warranties? would this scenario most likely benefit one of us or benefit Ford if a conflict arises.

Which would be more likely to try and deny a claim?
I wouldn't touch a 3rd party warranty with a ten foot pole. There are only a couple that are worth a crap.

Well, I brought my MKS from a Lexus dealership. Obviously they couldn't offer it as cpo, so they threw in a platinum extended warranty to get me to buy from them. It's essentially the same as Toyota, Lexus extended warranty through their Fidelity group.

The next day I went to a Lincoln dealer and asked the service manager if Fidelity was any good,  and he said absolutely. They honored one repair,  spark plug coil failure, so far with no problem...
I'm not saying they don't exist just to exercise due diligence. I would be especially leery of the unsolicited ones that arrive via USPS.

Just wanted to add this to the thread, when you unplug the battery you also get a bunch of "hidden" codes in the kam. They are communication errors, you cannot see or delete them unless you use Forscan and an MX type adapter. I found this out on a recent trip dealer. I said I was working on my stereo and had disconnected the battery. Even after completing the usual drive cycle they were still there. There was a ton of codes on the Ford IDS. Now that I have the MX adapter I can see into the KAM, it still doesn't help much as the car retains all kinds of info that cannot be cleared. Bottom line if FMC want to find out they will with a bit of digging. Until one day when someone is able to hack into the PCM and manipulate the data. However that is now fraud and you get the point.

I guess if your circumcised you'll have to find someone else's Forscan for your car...

Seriously though...
THAT's what they named it!?
Wow.

what constitutes flashing?
Im on the fence about getting a tune i just would hate to piss away 5 years of powertrain warranty(with extended).
could you claim a major failure on insurance?

What about using the clear kam feature in the x3? Does that clean out those errors?

^^ I'm not sure as I don't have the x3. The only way to be sure is to check it with FORScan and an MX adapter after.

I just got my SHO back a week ago from my dealer after they had the car for an entire month.  I was having a grinding issue in the rear end.

Before taking the car in I reflashed to stock. the dealer confirmed the grinding sound but could not confirm the cause or exactly what the grinding was. after going back n forth on the ford hotline, replaced a module, PCM and reprogrammed it, it still did not fix the issue. the dealer then asked if i still had the stock air box cuz i did have an airaid cai on the car,  i droooed of the stock box, dealer installed it and still problem not fixed. the dealer requested numerous times for an engineer to come and look at the car, instead they gave permission to the dealer to replace the entire rear end. problem fixed.

not once did they ask if I tuned the car.

now I have an issue with reinstalling the tune cuz of the new PCM. dealing with Torrie on that issue now.  I have a new laptop with windows 8.1 and cannot get the software driver to install.  Friday night drags coming up this Friday,  I hope this gets fixed quick.

Hope this info helps.

Best of my knowledge, regarding tunes and certain updates are not compatible with the windows 8.1 or are having difficulties loading files with the new version, mention to Torrie that you have the windows 8.1,good luck in that matter, lol

Sorry to revive this. I have been slowly stockpiling parts for my car to supplement a tune (not purchased yet). Car just turned 52k miles and I have Ford Premium care warranty till 75k, considering extending it to 100k miles. Is the performance gain worth loosing warranty? Car is currently bone stock except for EBC brakes and some aesthetic things.

when i was having tranny hesitation problems last year that finally was fixed by  tranny sensors to be replaced, ford told my dealer to have me take off my airaid & reinstall oem as well. to say the least didn't help & yes it made me wonder the level or expertise at ford corporate.

The Bone

For those of you with a tune when you take your car in for work ether return your car to stock or tell them not to update the PCM. if they do a update you will have a problem returning your car back to stock. You may also lose the ability to update your tune.
