SHO vs. WRX: Is there even a debate?

This thread makes me want to cross shop an F-150 Raptor and an F-350 Power Stroke. After all, they can both be bought for a similar amount of money, they're both 4x4 (if you choose), they're both trucks, and they both have aftermarket support.

Not to jack the thread... But .... If you want a truck to work.. go with the 350 (I've owned several since 1990.  The new one is quiet and surprisingly quick.  If you want bling and to play go with the Raptor.  No dis intended.  Most raptors never get off road.

Thanks for the input, but I'm not seriously cross shopping those two trucks, lol. I was just trying to make the point that just because a few of the same boxes are ticked for both vehicles it doesn't necessarily mean that they are comparable. I would never buy a Raptor to do a Super Duty's job and vice versa.

So with the criteria I set above in my previous post, what other cars play in this sandbox?

Under the narrow constraints you've established, there isn't a plethora of options. That doesn't mean that most people would cross shop a WRX and a SHO. It just means that, according to your fairly specific criteria, you would. If you were to replace the forced induction requirement with a minimum output power requirement, and keep all other criteria the same, you would have many more comparable cars from which to choose. This is especially true for the SHO as the STI variant of the WRX is much more of a niche vehicle and only has a few competitors within said niche.

More expensive  alternatives are out there .. If you shop around, especially  in todays market a base model  BMW 335i x drive can be had in the mid  40's ,  straight 6 turbo 335hp with a manual trans.

I personally cross shopped them, simply because I shopped literally the entire market. I was open to nearly anything.

But, outside of special circumstances such as my own, I highly doubt these two cars are cross shopped often. Least ways, not on the new to mostly new market. Preowned may be a different story.

My Sonata 2.0T leaase is up in 10 months, so I've been shopping and looking.  My criteria is AWD, turbo, ~$30K (new or used), automatic w/ paddles, and fast.  The '15 WRX now meets my requirements but it still looks cheap.  I am going to test drive a '15 CVT Limited in a few months to see how well it drives.  If Subaru puts the 2.0T in the Legacy, I'd strongly consider it. 

The '11-14' WRX doesn't even have a power seat.  I wouldn't consider it.

I want luxury (heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel) and a flipping factory remote start system that turns on the heated/cooled seats/wheel.  Amazing how many $50K+ cars don't offer this like the '13+ SHO/MKS.

The Charger R/T AWD is appealing but no turbo.  I live at 8,500', so I need all the help I can get!

A used 2013 SHO/MKS for ~$30K is hard to beat.  One of the best used cars on the market, IMO.

^^^^ Don't do it. You can not cross shop these vehicles. Apples to plums comparison.

^^^^ your right they not comparable.. {ford}  ones a big sedan and {suby} ones a smaller sedan {suby}ones a 4 banger and {ford} ones a 6 cylinder {ford} ones way more luxury then the other and {suby} one is more sporter then the other  {suby} one comes in a manual and one doesn't. wether is have a turbo or not the sho should be compared to a srt8 ss G8 5 series maybe and the suby is in class with the evo 135i 335i focus st srt4 cobalt... you dont see motor trend comparing and SS with a ST? or a 335i with a E class? wether your  looking between and sti or a sho doesn't mean that they are in the same class and even if your went  to the track with those to they would be in the same class either...

When i was shopping around for the SHO, I was looking at the Chrysler 300S and the G37x.  The 300S (especially with the 5.7L Hemi & AWD) had very good fit and finish but not all the creature comforts of the SHO.  The G37x was "peppier" (lighter, more responsive) but was at a slightly higher price point.

Glad i went with the SHO, but the 300S w/ the 5.7L (and AWD) was a close 2nd.
