hey guys i been reading aroud days trying to find a good way to make my exhaust have a better deeper tone. My stock sho is just too quite for me(Ii came from a v8 hemi) I see some different options and my buddy suggest just doing axle back for low cost and a better tone . What do you guys suggest and is a cold air intake worth it?
Theres no time like SHOTIME!!

Dynomax makes an axle back but it's kind of cheap.  The CAI (which really isn't) is pretty good for looks and sound.

Lots of options out there for catback exhaust systems and Cold Air Intake .

Most forum members do this over axleback  ..... you will be glad later .....

I have AirAid CAI and Corsa catback on my SHO .

Another option is Stainless Works for catback    ......  here is a link    http://shop.ecoboostpowerparts.com/Ford-SHO-Lincoln-MKS-Stainless-Works-catback-exhaust-SWSHO-Catback.htm
2013 SHO  ....  not mine anymore

I'm an Airaid and Corsa guy.

I will say that I can't speak on other styles/brands but I'm impressed with Corsa in both sound and structural integrity LOL. I'm lowered and have beat the hell out of my pipes and they are still solid and not dented haha.

I'd start with what will give you sound and probably the most power. Get some off road downpipes. Seems like deleteing the 3rd cat and resonator make a nice growl, and not too loud. If you want to disturb the peace later on and pick up a little more power then add a cat back exhaust also.
2013 PP SHO LMS 93V10 tune, 170* T stat, 3bar, K&N drop in, plugs re-gapped, 4in exhaust tips.

Depending on how fast you're looking to move on this, I could potentially sell you my Dynomax axle back system, it's absolutely the cheapest exhaust you could get . . . it's a bit louder than stock but not really a huge change though.

If sound is the deal listen to both... the choose, we all hear things a little differently and it is yours!.  :thumb: YouTube is full of these vids.

I will have one... but we are developing one... not completely unlike the "one of" that bpd has posted here.

As far as performance related to installing an aftermarket air induction know this:
Ford can and has within the last week voided warranties (I know the guy) for using aftermarket CAI (the original TSB was for Mustang a few years ago... posted here somewhere), AND without a tune it won't change the performance much despite claims for the new Ford algorithms... we dyno'd my '13 SHO with hood up and the OEM box removed...can't get any freer flow or cooler air... and in stock tune the ECM won't let the engine make the power so the dyno didn't change...  4DR has even recorded decreases for some.. he can supply details on that.

Not wanting to be a wet blanket... just want folks making informed decisions ... Keep on modding!  :beer2:

since i have an extended warranty i talked with my dealer serv mgr before making my mods to engine. What he told me was air in & out where OK & wouldn't void the warranty unless they could prove on the CAI that it had sucked water into the engine & i know with the airaid using same air intake as standard intake would be hard for them to do. The main issue with the airaid is that it covers the dipstick for the tranny fluid, so you got to move it around to check fluid. Talking from experience of a dad who worked for a dealer, they love warranty work. So only issue is when they have to get Ford involved. That's what I got from my dealer & they are real conservative. As a past show car judge & now displayer it's an absolute must have.

Yea Mike dealer relationship is important.  I think all dealers should be as you describe.  I have an extended warranty also. In the case I referenced Ford was unfortunately involved. My information came from the owner of the car.  It may well be atypical.  As you say it is different with a big claim and Ford  corporate involved.

Shooting purely from the hip, $200. It's gonna be a little bit, I need to get another project wrapped up first and then figure out just what I'll be looking to do with my MKS, but I'm pretty certain I'll be taking on mods that will require an exhaust upgrade so I'll be looking to sell my Dynomax at some point in the sort of near term.

esfoad

If it's sound you are after and not concerned about adding power than the Dynomax is an excellent choice. I was where you are and bought the Dynomax. Cost about $300 installed. We cut off the stock mufflers and welded in the new ones. They sound awesome. No drone at all and a really nice growl. Absolutely NO power increase and that's OK with me since I find the car to have plenty of power for my needs. When I need more, I jump in the Vette :)
Good Luck with your decision.
