Portland drivers! Did you know that while you are driving, talking on the phone and reading a book, you could put your phone on speaker and check your email at the same time. You also mine as we'll hook up to that rope on my rear bumper and let me tow you, so I can save you on gas

It bizarre, I watch the traffic at rush hour go from stop to 70 to stop. And the only reason for it is driving habits. Way to close / slam on brakes / speed up / slam on brakes. There would be NO traffic if people simply didn't drive so close. All I can reason is most like traffic

Way off ecoboost topic but it's about cars and lives

I agree...I remember the days in DFW.... 1-2 feet apart stretched for miles at 75mph though. I don't follow close 'cuz I don't want to rock blast the front of my car! (Why I love ACC!)

I do have to admit that several times after ending completely hands free phones call I have thought... "Wow, I hope those lights were green!"  It can be distracting.  You don't have to look away to be unable to see if your focus shifts.

There's a bunch (100 or more) way to close on a Pennsylvania road as we type. When they get moving, it will be courtesy of the hook.

Close is only good in horse shoes.

I think some of that is due to driving familiar route's and being so used to them that you don't remember any specific occurrences because your brain finds it so mundane and irrelevant, haha. Sometimes I am completely on auto pilot and will have the feeling you described. I don't think it makes me unsafe, you just can't remember or explain how you made it to work safely, but you are so programmed as to how to get there you don't recall.

Its funny you bring this topic up. I ride a motorcycle 95% of the time (altho I find myself driving the SHO a lot lately) and have developed the habit of not only paying attention to traffic but also what drivers are doing in there cars. You would be amazed at some of the crap I see, but my biggest pep peeve is people texting wail driving, closely followed by females doing there make up wail they leisurely travel down the road.

with the collision avoidance on in the SHO all this is scary, but not as bad.  If you maintain your lane the car will stop you dead if necessary (while the windshield flashes red and all kind of obnoxious alarms go off.. LOL)

I saw that video years ago, and it has stuck with me since. Traffic is a fascinating phenomenon.

That doesn't surprise me. People just flat out don't know how to drive. I don't mean people are stupid or texting or eating while driving. People just don't drive properly. Some people are ignorant and putting the rest if us in danger because they're to lazy to get out of bed in time, and others drive like they're afraid of driving, and others just don't pay any attention. At any given time I can tell you whose in front of me, to the right or left, and behind me. You can tell a lot about people based on the way they drive.

That video says it all. I practice and preach a two second rule. When vehicle in front of you crosses a fixed object - count one-one thousand / two one thousand, then you pass that fix object. You can see how I works and accommodates any speed. Try It, you'd be amazed, 99% of vehicle operators drive so closely you can't even say the word ONE before they cross that fix object

My biggest pet peeve are the IDIOT's that fly around you and then slow down in rush hour traffic and force there way over to get off at the exit that is only a few hundred feet ahead ..... totally screwing up traffic even more .

...and they pull up so close behind at stoplights that they will hit you of they get rear ended at 30 mph!
