Well I leased the car 1/13, 10 days and 712 miles later my wife tried to merge onto the highway when the car went flat and then had a sudden burst of acceleration. With that came a knock. Had it towed to dealer, blown engine. Took a month to repair, new engine and torque converter. Get the car back, alignment is all out of wack so they fix that. Come April the car is making this horrible creaking noise and the A/C doesn't work. Back to the dealer and they replace the compressor ans say the creak is from my eibach springs, bull s***. They refuse to repair the creak and say its the strut mount so I pay for a new mount which they won't repair because of the springs. I change it out, still a creak. Also a weird noise under acceleration. Take it to another dealer they have it 2 weeks, they had to tighten the whole sub frame assembly down and replace all the bushing that were destroyed while the sub frame was shifting around. Creak gone, other noise still present. Subframe issue was due to the mechanic doing a shitty job putting the engine back in.
At this point I retained a lawyer and ford offered some cash. Brought the car in again for the other sound, they rode with me, verified the noise, had it a week and tightened an exhaust bolt. Noise still there, filed for lemon law on total days down and refusal to repair. Ford sends tech to dealer, tech says something ain't right and it's not related to the springs. They had the car for a final repair attempt, 30 days later I get the car back, here's the list.
Motor mount upside down not connected, turbo heat shields missing, tranny cooling lines not bolted down just pushed into radiator, ac lines improperly run through the firewall, PTU seals destroyed and leaking due to improper installation, 4 bolts missing in bell housing.
Replaced a total of 18 missing bolts, 2 turbo heat shields, PTU seals, motor mount, and stabilizer bushing.
Ford offered more money to keep the car,
At this point I feel the car is not safe.
They refused a buy back and we filed for arbitration.
They settled and are buying the car back but are dragging their feet.

So all the issues after the engine failure was due to a shitty install.
72 days out of service, 5 repair attempts.

I'm getting a Ram, I can't bring my self to buy another Ford for awhile. The dealer was horrible and the corp wasn't much better. I bought 5 new fords in the last 11 years, some customer loyalty they showed me.

That is truly a sad story.  Did they ever figure how the engine blew?   Who ever replaced the motor must have just come from the quick change oil joint.  You know, the one that strips your pan bolts.   I have Eibachs and so do others.  Never heard a complaint about them.  Well, I am sorry you had such a bad experience.  Hopefully, karma owes you a good turn.

EcoBrick Bob

I have had "0" problems with my long block install.  Of course the mechanic owned a Volvo Turbo!!!!!!!  Guess I was lucky.

WOW, terrible ordeal.  I've honestly never heard a story that bad.  The car should have been fun. Thanks for posting your ordeal for us.  I agree with DJ on the mechanic, including him not noticing that Ford hadn't finished building the car, not just his lack of knowledge about how it goes together.  I too have bought almost entirely Ford for 38 years.  Your story will shake my faith.

I wish you the best of luck with getting this all settled and with your new ride.

OMFG.  That dealer should be totally embarrassed by that tech.  That is basically "not giving" a crap.   FORD should have been kissing your butt threw out this.  FORD should of demanded the tech fired.  What would of happen if the subframe would of just dropped out with your family in the car, plus the other issues he caused.  I've missed small items doing my own stuff, but nothing like what you have stated.  Could you let us know the dealer and the VIN of your car, so no one here goes there or buys that car.  So sorry they screwed you over, hope all goes well with your RAM.

thank you for all of those details so we can understand what happened. That is absolutely awful and if I was in your position I would not buy from the same manufacturer again, at least not immediately. Fool me once shame on you
, fool me twice shame on me.  It should have been a really fun car to own as stated above. And I also would request that the vehicle identification number be disclosed so that no one buys that headache who is on this forum.

Sadly, once a lawyer is retained they do the minimum and look at you as an enemy.  Not that you would have gotten anywhere without a lawyer.  Just a shitty situation.

As part of the settlement did Ford have to pay your lawyer fee's?

Good question.  The other sad part of retaining a lawyer is that no matter what happens it seems like the winners are the attorneys. I have heard it said that litigation is the sport of kings.

That sounds like some messed up lemon law stuff.  Obviously states vary on lemon laws but dealers and manufactures know what the laws are and what they must do.  It is very clear.  You shouldn't need to waste money on an attorney.

My story - bought a brand new 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  It had transmission issues.  Took it back to the local dealer I bought it from several times, they kept it for testing etc.  Couldn't fix it.  This went on for around a year.  I am in Wisconsin and I researched the lemon law statutes.  They are very clear as to what meets the lemon law and what the manufacture MUST do if it does.  On one of the later service visits I left a copy of the Wisconsin lemon law statutes on the passenger seat to give them a hint.  Oh wow....got a phone call that Jeep authorized replacing the transmission.  Go ahead and do it but a little too late.

I went to a Chrysler dealer whom I have done business with before and talked with the sales manager.  I filed the lemon law stuff with them and they ordered a new 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (all the same options).  I actually had the option of waiting a few weeks as the 2005's were coming out but that was a redesign and I decided to stay away from the first model year of a redesign.

Jeep tried to get me to pay for mileage racked up on the 2003 and I pointed out to the Chrysler dealer that the law clearly states they COULDN'T do that.  All that is required to be paid by me is title and registration on the replacement.

I got a 2004 and was very happy with it.  There was no need for me to pay for an attorney.  Obviously your laws may vary.

Just thought I would share and maybe it gives you some ideas.
