Got hit tonight, but not the SHO

So since I am a good husband, and the streets here in Chicago are saltier than a slice of prosciutto, I decided to take my wife's 09 Escape for a quick wash. Get 3 blocks from the house and as I'm going through an intersection, I hear the screeching sound of 4 tires locked up sliding towards me. I had just enough time to look to my left and see a Ford Focus coming toward me and BAM!  I did a 360 and ended up with a side airbag in my face. I'm ok. And thank God I was alone because my 1 year old daughter would have been right behind me where the car was hit. But everyone was ok and no one hurt. I decided to be nice when the Officer asked if I wanted the driver to have a ticket and said no. The other driver was on the phone and admitted fault. Here's the best part; Officer was gonna let other driver sit in the back of his squad because of the cold, upon searching the driver he found drug paraphernalia. That driver is currently a temporary resident of DuPage County jail.

Accidents will always happen at some point. And of course my wife doesn't care about her car being caked in dirt and salt so she's like "I'm glad you're OK, but did my car really need to be washed?" But if it had to happen, I'm glad it was me and not my girls.

Be safe out there, and keep an eye out for pot heads on cell phones.

Glad you're OK and that you weren't hurt.  We had a similiar experience in our 02 Explorer...it was less then 5 months old and my wife was stopped at a stop sign less then 75 feet from our house when someone tried to make a left turn onto the street she was on.  The car made the turn in front of an oncoming vehicle which hit the turning car and shoved it into my wife's Explorer.  Almost 7 grand in damage to the Explorer, which as I said was less then 5 months old.....

My wife's 2009 pick up was 7 hours after delivery when she was t-boned by a guy running a red light... These things really put life in perspective for us....  We baby our rides, but when this thing happens you always worry about friends and family first!

My '94 SHO got hit by a taxi downtown Chicago.  It was three days old.  Have you ever seen a grown man cry?

Ouch that sucks. Sounds like all the safety stuff did its job and your doing ok. Hope everything gets taken care of smoothly and no permanent injury to yourself.

I hope I can make it through this January with out getting hit. For the past two years I have been the third party involved in an accident in that month. And both time drivers have had state farm. First time was in a work vehicle. But last years accident was in my new 2 month old 2012 Chevy pickup with 2,000 some miles on it. We were at the only light in my small town. My brother was in his Durango in front of me. Light turns green he makes it across fine. Then some one runs the red light t bones a Honda that slides into my pickup. Freaking sucked

Thanks for the kind words everyone. At the end of the day it's just an object that can be fixed. Thankfully no one hurt. The Escape I was in and the Focus the other driver was in did their jobs and the safety features made a difference.

I'm sure everything will be fine, but the other drive had an expired insurance card, so I'm crossing my fingers that the insurance is valid. But the drug paraphernalia found by the Officer does not inspire confidence.

Glad your ok,  the expired insurance card really scares me here.  Do you have insurance for non insuranced driver.  How bad is the damage on the Escape, dont want to see it totaled.  Hope it works out for you.

UPDATE:

I do have uninsured motorist coverage, so if the other driver does in fact not have insurance, my insurance carrier will cover everything and go after the other driver personally.

On a good note, I managed to secure a 2014 Escape with an Ecoboost and AWD as my wife's rental. A little while back I tried talking her into one so we wouldn't have to sell her Escape and I could then use it as my "winter car."  She said it's too small and she wants something bigger when she gets a new car. I'm hoping she gets a chance to fall in love with the new Escape so I can move forward with my evil plan of getting the wife a cheap yet reliable and safe new car, so we don't need to sell hers, giving me a solid reliable not too old and free winter car so my SHO can stay tucked in and warm in the garage during the harsh Chicago winters.

Maw ha ha ha ha!!!
