Second thoughts on this EcoBoost phenomenon... SCARED.

I've been careful with the AF on the tune and not getting greedy... BUT DAMN there's already a few of these motors blown up already... some are completely unmolested. Failures have occured even when not under WOT.

I'm starting to get a little nervous about the reliability of the ecoboost motor in general because of other owners having issues this early. Ford has even waived core charges on short blocks supposedly because the issue is common.

I know my powertrain warranty is long gone now, and a $6000 short block will not be fun.

Thoughts?

A short block is 2700 list price, you can get a complete motor for around $3k from a junk yard, it's not that bad. I'd look into the new rods/pistons coming out soon...

I had not heard of reported issues like this on totally stock engines.  Makes me worry as well.......... Regardless of the tune, any tune, you know you are putting more stress on the engine than the factory bean counters desired.  But if stock unmolested engines are blowing up, that concerns me... Where did you hear about this - I missed it.

I guess the price has come down since I researched it back in June.

If you drive them long enough... eventually everyone will blow up..

If you're worried... either don't tune or buy a different vehicle. Ford will replace if you haven't toyed with it and it's still under warranty.  If you play... you gotta be able to pay... Just don't expect Ford to pay for your mistakes.

We already had one of these threads last week... I see this as an end-around to get back to the same subject.

Rumor and innuendo are fine elsewhere.
