Starting my meth install soon.... Probably have a couple bad ideas

Okay so I have an AEM meth kit that im itching to start installing. I just wanted to post my thoughts of the install and have someone chime in as to what they might think.

The kit has a gallon tank with a float switch and a system light to be installed in driver view. I wanted to mount the tank and pump in my trunk, this is how I had it set up on my mazdaspeed3. For the people that have had it set up this way, did you run the tubing through the inside or exterior of the car? I was thinking about getting a bulkhead fitting and running it through the floor of the trunk, then underneath the car following the purge line for the gas tank pressure. That would put the tubing right up by the throttle body. And would one side be easier to mount to vs the other in the trunk? As far as accessibility to run the wiring/tubing forward?

The controller I was going to mount to the passenger side strut tower in a water proof box with a grommet for accessibility. I don't know the innerworkings of the dash dash area, so it just seems easier to me to have it in the engine bay. I have a do10 nozzle on order that I'll be running.

Thoughts?? Thanks!

Certainly sounds feasible, the way you've described it.

I think it should be fine. I believe there are only two other people that are running their tanks through/from the trunk.

4DRHTRD (Mike) and FirstSHO (Mike).... lot of Mike's here aren't there?

Anyhow, try PM'ing either one of them, if neither of them chime in here.

From another...... Mike

4DR is meth free.  Plus the Flex doesn't really have a "trunk".  His nitrous bottles are installed in the void of the spare tire and the lines run under the car.  Not sure if it was with a grommet or bulkhead fitting.

Sadly it is the wife's car, so I can't go too crazy on it...just a simple tune for now.

Yea, that's what I meant.....

I know he's running the E85.....

Took a little for the coffee to kick in this morning, and as a few know, I was laid up in the hospital this week, and my surgery's been rescheduled for this Monday.

Moving along, my intent was knowing that 4DR ran his set tank set up from an alternate location (as you stated, spare well area)but the rationale still applies to the OP's query.

So repeating, the only two that I am aware of, running alternate tank locations are 4DR & FirstSHO. Check up with either of them fine gentlemen.

Thanks for the input. I really wish there was enough room for the tank in the engine bay. But I think the trunk mounting will make it less suspicious for dealer oil change visits.

I too am this close to installing meth... I keep going back to the AIS stage 2 trunk mount setup.
May just suck it up and go with lms/alky kit but man I don't wanna go thru that install.
AIS kit is cheaper even with all bells/whistles and is much easier to install, plus a larger tank.
Hear nothing but praise about alky control tho

I assume you will be running a braided line from the tank to the pump...  Know 4Dr has braided lines for his nitrous system as I have seen them.  Currently his dual pump LPFP system is NOT return-less, so he had to add a new larger fuel line and us using the stock fuel line for the return line.

If you are going to run a methanol % that is flammable (above 50%) my personal opinion is that the line needs to be outside and not inside the car.

I believe that most if not all W/M users that have a controller, have mounted them inside, where they can see and adjust them.  I have a simple boost pressure switch, so ran my wiring thru drivers side fender and around the door post and into the interior that way, as it is a simple on/off switch wire, and doesn't provide power to the pump.

When I was in AZ, I longingly salivated over 4 DR's install.  When he used the AirAid custom CAI kit, he was able to pull all of the stock air box stuff, which leaves a big area inside the engine bay in front of an below the battery box for a  w/m pump to be installed below any tank (including our w/w tank), and likely enough room for a gallon tank on top of it, yet allowing for the CAI piping.

Have you looked at Devil's Own W/M system for SHO?  It uses a boost controller and has a 300 psi pump.  You can update all the lines with braided ones and get a larger spray nozzle.  Looks to me that even with braided lines and a #10 nozzle, the cost would be under $500.  The nice thing about their site is that you can price everything you need.  None of the other ones seem to give you that option.  I have purchased items from them and their quality is first class.  Also... all of these pumps are made by Shurflow.  They also have all the same internal parts from my research.

Also, 4DR is in contact with AlkyControl about offering a system thru him that won't cost as much as the Livernois system.

Well I have the AEM kit already. I have bought a lot of parts from DO. Various nozzles, Check valves, and his sealing tank tap. I think I'm going to do the initial install with vinyl tubing, then measure what I need for the braided lines. I'll go braided from the trunk to the throttle body.

The controller idea outside has me worried. If I can't find a good enough waterproof case I will put it inside, probably behind my driver side kick panel. It's boost activated as well and I wanted it in the engine bay so I could run a shorter tube.

Where are people usually tapping in to for power?? And thanks a ton for the input.

I have the same AEM tank and found a location to mount the tank and pump in the front.  I made a bracket to mount the tank and pump.  It will mount in the drivers side behind the bumper.  I have to re-mount the horn but it all fits there.  The only problem is you can't get to the cap to refill.  I plan on putting in a tube that will run up to the engine bay.  Prior to installing the tank I'm going to see how much fluid fits in the tank once the light turns on so that I know how much to put in the tank since I won't be able to see it.  I plan on detailing the install here soon.
