There you go... came in last by a wide margin, where sport comp 2 finished first

I owned THOSE particular FS Wide Ovals (not the A/S ones) on my previous 2010 Flex in 255/45-20.  It was a durable tire, but cold weather (like 40 degree days) were brutally slippery and that wasn't fun.  In normal (Hot) weather here in the desert, they had OK but not great straight light traction as I was able to break them free in my FWD Flex pretty often off the line.  The cornering and overall handling was fantastic though.  They started weather-checking from the heat pretty early on, say 16k miles in and less than 2 years old.

I'm darn happy with my Toyo tires I've got on my 2013 but the model I have isn't available in 245/45-2 so I won't recommend.

If you want a real grippy tire then you can't expect great treadlife, heck, look how disappointed most have been with the Supercar F1 tires.  So I would expect the Firestones to not be as grippy, but I do like the fact that it has a 50K treadwear warranty.  Also as far as BFG's, they may do well on a test, but again my personal experience with Goodrich both with car and truck tires is that they are not very impressive, either with handling, tire life, or traction, but again, I suppose your choice of tires should really be on what you want them to do.  However, going with a Ultra High Performance tire and then complaining about them only lasting 20-30K seems strange.

I'm getting ready to replace my original Goodyear all seasons and I want to stay with all seasons in my climate. I like the 50K the Goodyears gave me. I also test drove a SHO with the OE summer tires on a cold road and I'm not interested in experiencing that again. I started reading about the new Michelin AS 3's. Seems like a perfect blend of all season cold weather capability with summer tire performance. What's not to like?

Thats the range im shooting for, I dont mind having tires last 20-30k for the trade off of good grip. But my F1s on now are pretty much done at 16k. I like the idea of the BFgs since they are rated to last longer. I dont mind trading a little grip for longevity

I haven't done a bunch of research since I don't run all seasons... but the new Hankook s1 noble2 has gotten great reviews as has the Genrral gmax as03 (heard they are noisier tho), and both are almost certainly more budget conscious than Michelins

But are they all seasons. If so I will check them out as I don't mind saving a few bucks as long as my criteria of winter reasonable and summer reasonable performance with quiet and wet handling and 45 to 50K tread life. The SHO has real bad manners on cold pavement with summer tires.

Upon further research I see hankook isnt available in factory 245/45 but General is and its $100 cheaper per tire than Michelin as3

As an aside, the 50k warranty applies not to the summer tire, but the A/S tire.  Though they are both Firestone tires, that's pretty much all they share in common.

I will not purchase Michelin, regardless of how much they are raved about how great they are...this attitude comes from my personal experience with Michelin, I have NEVER been able to get any support from either their dealers nor from Michelin when experiencing a problem. Now, with the sidewall cracking on the factory Primacy, and once again, getting the shoulder shrug from Michelin when I contacted them about it, I just can't stand it, and they've proven to me that they just have no customer support and I refuse to spend any money with them. But other then Michelin, I haven't ruled out any other tire to use when I do replace the Michelins, which BTW I am pleased with treadwear, but not the nasty sidewall cracking....

Yup, mine cracked too... got the whole "its prob from tire wet" but the cracking was just as severe on the inside as well.
Just didn't trust em as I do a lot of roadtripping. So I replaced them even tho they have a ton of tread left. Only had 22k on car when I pulled em.

Went with hankook v12 and I'm very pleased thus far.

I had a similar experience as the two of you with the factory Michelin Primacy's.

Not only with the tires themselves, but also similar experiences with customer service and trying to get them covered under warranty.

As a result of those experiences I will never ever buy any type of product from Michelin ever again.

Not only for my car, but also for my wife's, and that of each of my children.

I too had plenty of tread left on the tires, but also opted to replace them anyhow.

To me it just simply was not worth the risk of a tire failure or a complete blowout.

So in short, Michelin can suck it.

Secondary aside, it may be important then to remember that Michelin owns MANY companies other than just Michelin.  If boycotting, you may need to side-step a lot of brands.

BFG being one.
