Plasti dip on wheels with curb rash???

I want to plasti dip my stock 20's. There are some small 'marks' on one or two that should not be a big deal to plastidip over. But one of the wheels has curb rash on a couple spots. I know I probably shouldn't just plasti dip over them.  Should I have the wheel repaired or save the money and smooth it out my self?  Because I'll plastidip the wheel, it doesn't need to look perfect, just smooth. Thanks.

Go ahead and get yourself varying grades of sandpaper and work that curb rash before hitting it with the plastidip. I think it will be worth the effort and limited money.

Enough coats of Plastidip should smooth it out, I'd think...but what do I know.  Id never considered spraying rubber on my wheels.

It's very easy to smooth out any aluminum wheel curb rash... Hardest part is matching the paint color, so Plastidip is your friend!  Just sand down with progressively finer emory cloth and you will be good to go with Plastidip!

On my 2010, I had my wheels (OEM 20'') plastidipped. Beside having cleaned the rims, no prep has been done. The results were very satisfying. You can see a picture in October ROTM thread... Zoom on the picture and you will see the results. Save your money, plastidip will hide most of wheel damage... And mine were pretty much damaged, surely more than yours.
With plastidip wheels, you can use tire shine and make them shine very nicely... In the winter though, they become greyish with calcium and salt, but easily cleanable.

Thanks for all the advice.  Now the only question is gunmetal (light grey) or charcoal (dark grey).  Then leave them matte, or go with gloss, pearlizer, or metalizer?  I like black, but my SHO is already black and black rims are kind of becoming played out. I want to be different.

I say go with the gloss it gives it just a little shine and every one does the  matte so much so I hate the look now

I am normally more partial to lighter wheels.  (Unless the black have machined rims.)  I wonder how the light grey with pearl would look?  Maybe not so good on black but on other colors.

Since plasti dipping is a minimal cost, just time consuming, I may do 2 or 3 options, one wheel for each option, and see what I like.  The only problem is it would be hard to get my Dad to let me use his lift for a whole Day or two since he currently has his 08 Bullitt Mustang and 67 Fairlane parked in the garage and god forbid they sit outside.  What I really should he focusing on is how he ended with not 1, but 2 nice cars in the garage without my Mom making a widow out of herself.
