It looks like my Jeep SRT-8 is finally going to find a new home and the door is opening for the new car. I was initially eyeing only the MKS, but the SHO has grown on me as of late. So with all things considered for the 2010-2012 offerings from Lincoln and Ford, which would you choose and why?

The Lincoln did not even cross my mind when looking and honestly still doesn't.  I like having the sleeper effect, but Lincolns in general just make me want to go to sleep.

I really love both of them.  But, if forced to choose-SHO.  SHO has the legacy of being special.  And, while I love the Lincolns, they are not SHOs.

No offense to my MKS brethren!

I like both, but when I compared the two, the lines of the SHO just looked better to me.  The Lincoln has a nicer interior and smoother exterior, so it's a tough choice.  I would really look at both in person before deciding which you like best. You really can't go wrong with either choice.

I had a 2010 MKS which was non boosted and a nice car but when it came to getting another I went with a 12 SHO with the PP..Does a MKS even come with a performance package now? Anyway I would go with the one you can get the best price on which is probably the SHO..

When it comes to Lincoln and Fords, they are essentially the same, although there are more differences now than in the past. If you want a 'Luxury' car, get a Lincoln. If you want a 'sports' car, get the SHO. Look at it this way;  if I wanted to buy an SUV and was gonna use it for towing, hauling, hunting, maybe going off road through the woods, etc, I'd get an expedition. If I wanted comfort, convenience, chrome, amenities, etc. I'd get a Navigator.

You'd be surprised that on the used cars market, the MKS aren't more expensive than the SHOs. The SHO may be a bit more sportier, but the quality (I am referring at the interior finish, leather, etc.) is far superior in the Lincoln. The Lincoln is even more of a sleeper, especially if you remove the ecoboost badge.

I had a Limited Flex 2009 that I changed for a 2010 Lincoln MKT and even if I preferred the outside look of the Flex, the inside is very high class in the MKT.

The inside of the SHO looks good, but is very plastic (2013 less than 2010).

I personally just don't like the rear of the MKS...

Good luck!

My summary:  ONLY speaking to pre 2013 models:

All 2010-2012 MKS have HID, auto hi-beams, power tilt/telescoping wheel, and power rear sunshade.  Only some SHO have those features.

All MKS have articulating headlights, not available on SHO

All MKS have LED tail lights

All MKS have front parking sensors (only some SHO have them)

If equipped with a sunroof:  MKS has dual sunroofs (one sliding, one fixed) and power dual sunroof sunshades , SHO has one sunroof and the sunroof sunshades are not power

MKS Fob can both lower AND RAISE windows and open and  CLOSE sunroof - SHO fob only lowers/opens.

2009-2012 MKS can be dealer programmed to have DRL (uses the foglights), SHO with HID can't

Optional MKS THX II sound is superior to the top optional Sony in the SHO

MKS has the little blind spot mirrors built into the outside driver's and passenger rear view mirrors (unless you have blind side alert), SHO does not have the blind spot mirrors (I don't think...at least not in 2010)

MKS longer warranty

MKS real wood and upscale interior

SHO interior sportier
SHO ogled over by car guys
SHO nice grippy suade seat inserts
SHO generally better handling
SHO much wider/better trunk opening
SHO has rear fold down seats which is extremely convenient (MKS doesn't)
SHO has a performance Package (PP) option, MKS doesn't

2017 Silver Cadillac XTS V-Sport Platinum  3.6 Twin Turbo; LME tuned.

TSS nailed it there. I drove both before going with the SHO. They are both excellent vehicles. From my personal point of view, the MKS was a softer ride, a tad floaty compared to the SHO. Better interior features in the MKS, but not as sporty feeling in the SHO. Looks wise, I have said before, the MKS looks better in photos, but the SHO wins in the flesh (personal opinion). I think both the MKS and SHO are sleepers, nobody knows the difference between a Limited and SHO in my experience. The MKS with the Ecoboost package is mean looking for sure. I knew I wanted one of the twins after driving the MKS, but the Taurus interior and exterior won me over.

I appreciate all of the candid and insightful responses. I really have a great feel for what each car has to offer in comparison to one another. With most aspects of the two cars it comes to down to personal tastes and is rather subjective. The one piece that has the MKS slightly ahead is that the CPO for the Lincoln covers everything whereas the SHO reverts back to a powertrain only after a year. I am going to void the powertrain warranty after modding in either of them(already have parts coming in the mail before I buy the car), but it would be nice to still have the electronics covered.
