I know it has been done, and i know that there is a fella that did a write up on doing this swap.

I am reaching out hoping one of you can point me into the direction of that post, and or fill me in on the biggest issues that i will run into going this route.

-I would think 1st and foremost is using the 2nd gens pcm and getting it to communicate with the older truck.

- then is it possible to keep the 6 speed( i actually like the trans)
Or does that in it self need to be swapped , then you get into driveline changes and such.

- motor mounts( same different/line-up,  or need adapters,

- intercooler/and  piping, bov would need to be swapped,

- not sure what differences are made between the hose connections to the rad

-also thw vac pump is a different  set up

I've built this ol' gal up with these chewed up claws of mine over the last 2 years, and as any gearhead would, i have loved ever min. of it.

Gotta get it back up and running asap, considering this is my mobile work station for my graphics co.

Bottom line, is i am trying to determine if it makes more sense to just get a reman2012  and new injectors. ( turbos this spring )
Or, pick up a complete 2018 gen2 and have something unique and a better starting point for building power.

All postive input is greatly appreciated,
I've been in the auto world for the better part of 25yrs.
Not a skill set issue, currently just lacking the approach and the bits and pieces its easy to over look.

I would stick with a 2012 motor since you are not hauling etc.

Side by side if you could race your 2 truck builds. Would all the extra work done to convert to a 2018 motor be worth it for a few truck lengths on a drag strip per say ? It sounds like a lot of work.

Sorta ,
But even tho I do like tonrun this thing hard,
The 2nd gen motors have a lot more going for them than the 1st gen.
Dual fueling , larger turbos,  better head flow, and a hand full of others that  I cant think of at the moment.

But on the other hand you arent wrong either,
If my heads arent toast, then a built rmb short block might be the best route and I'll stick to direct port meth for extra fuel.
